Path of Exile 2: the Lightbringer Hood is available until tonight at 11 PM — and GGG announces its August 25 reveal

There's a deadline hitting tonight that requires absolutely no in-game effort whatsoever: the Twitch Drops for Path of Exile 2's second ExileCon qualifier close on August 14 at 2:00 PM PDT, that's 11:00 PM in France. Thirty minutes of viewing is enough to grab the Lightbringer Hood.

And in eleven days, Grinding Gear Games gets serious: the studio has confirmed a reveal at gamescom's Opening Night Live on August 25. Here's the full schedule, converted to French time.

Tonight: the Lightbringer Hood, how it works

The second ExileCon qualifier for Path of Exile 2 has been running since August 13. The associated Twitch Drops are active for 24 hours, until August 14 at 2:00 PM PDT — 11:00 PM Paris time.

The conditions are simple and deliberately flexible:

• Watch 30 minutes of the broadcast, either on the official channel or any channel streaming Path of Exile 2 during the race.
• You can also catch up afterwards with your usual content creator: GGG explicitly states this.
• Co-streaming is allowed.

The one real technical requirement is the one players forget half the time: your Twitch account must be linked to your Path of Exile account. Linking isn't retroactive in the sense that viewing time accumulated before linking doesn't always count. If you've never done this, do it before starting the stream, not after.

An extra point for those who've been following the circuit from the start: widely shared advice recommended linking accounts before August 13 to secure drops and qualifier eligibility. If you missed that, link your accounts now anyway — the worst that can happen is that tonight doesn't count.

Where the competition stands

The format is a multi-qualifier race, whose winners will meet in the final at ExileCon. Jiluo has already secured a spot after the first qualifier; the second, currently underway, will name the next one.

The official broadcast can be followed on the Path of Exile Twitch channel. For a French viewer, the interest goes beyond the cosmetic: these races are the best place to see Runes of Aldur builds pushed to their limits by players who have no room for error.

August 25: the real deadline

This is the date to mark, because it's the one that will determine your next league.

GGG has announced its presence at gamescom in Cologne with a special demo, exclusive to the event. The booth is located at Hall 6.1, spot B031. But for those who won't be making the trip, the essential point comes down to one sentence from the studio: "Opening Night Live kicks off on August 25 at 11:00 AM PST. Watch the Twitch stream so you don't miss our reveal."

The word used is reveal, not trailer. Given this specific timing, it almost certainly points to what the community has been waiting for for weeks: the content of patch 0.5.5 and the roadmap toward 1.0.

What we really know about 0.5.5 — and what we don't

The line between the two needs to be clear, because it's getting seriously blurred in the reposts.

What GGG has confirmed: 0.5.5 will include a new one-month event league, major character balance changes, passive tree improvements, and new unique items.

What's not confirmed: the date. The patch was originally expected for late July 2026. The estimates circulating today range from early September to early October, with a consensus around mid-September. None of these dates come from Grinding Gear Games. They're community projections, and should be treated as such.

What's flat-out a leak: all the content detail circulating under the "0.5.5 leaked" label. New classes, system overhauls, new zones — none of this has been published by the studio. Wait for the 25th.

And until then: what should you do with your league?

The question is worth asking, because a new league announcement at the end of the month changes the value of what you're doing this week.

The active permanent league remains Runes of Aldur, on 0.5.0, with quality-of-life adjustments rolled out via minor patches up to 0.5.4. Three pieces of advice depending on your situation:

1. You're currently leveling a character: keep going. A one-month event league doesn't replace the current league, it runs alongside it. Your progress won't be wiped by 0.5.5.
2. You're stockpiling currency for an expensive item: now's the time to spend rather than hoard. Every time a new league is announced, prices in the existing economy drop — players look ahead to the new content and stop buying.
3. You're hesitant to start a new build: wait for the 25th. If the balance changes are as sweeping as announced, leveling a character today on a class that's getting reworked in three weeks doesn't make much sense.
