Palworld 1.0 Flying Pals: Tier List of Mounts with the Best Speed/Stamina Ratio

In brief

Xenolord and Jetragon dominate the ranking of flying mounts in Palworld 1.0, but the best choice depends on your priority: infinite stamina or raw speed. Shadowbeak offers an excellent mid-game alternative, while Panthalus reigns over ocean crossings.

A good flying mount transforms travel in Palworld: crossing biomes becomes child's play. Some of the best, like Xenolord or Eidrolon, require late-game saddles (beyond level 60), but others, like Shadowbeak, can be obtained as early as the midgame. Here's our ranking of flying mounts, evaluated not just on speed alone, but on their overall usefulness - speed, Stamina, and maneuverability.

1. Xenolord

Our number one. Xenolord is one of the fastest Pals in the game, but it's not its speed that puts it at the top: it's its massive Stamina, which lets it fly nearly three times longer than average. Where other mounts need passive skills to avoid draining their gauge, this Dark/Dragon type dragon naturally makes up for it thanks to its speed. Add Stamina passives and you get absolute aerial supremacy.

2. Jetragon

Unsurprisingly, its saddle unlocks at level 79: Jetragon is simply the fastest Pal in Palworld. For a quick hunting run or reaching a far-off point in a flash, it's the ideal mount.

3. Eidrolon

Eidrolon (and Eidrolon Ignis) sits between Xenolord and Jetragon: slightly faster than the former, with more Stamina than the latter. Bonus: pairing it with Pals sharing its elements (Dark and Dragon) further increases its speed.

4. Selyne

Slower than the top trio and than Shaolong, Selyne makes up for it with Stamina equal to Xenolord's, making it very reliable in flight. Its unique advantage: its small humanoid model, which lets it slip into tight spaces and navigate freely close to the ground.

5. Shaolong

Shaolong makes this list for its pure speed: only Jetragon flies faster. The downside is that its Stamina is even lower than Jetragon's, a flaw to fix with passive skills. Being Dragon/Water type, it also lets you pick up items out at sea while flying.

6. Panthalus

Panthalus looks slow above the islands, but it's actually very fast - and above all, it suffers no Stamina loss: you can fly for hours without it tiring. It's perfect for crossing oceans from one island to another. Its only flaw is its size: not very maneuverable, and you can't even dismount normally (your character floats above its body). Best reserved for long trips.

7. Frostallion

Frostallion (and Frostallion Noct) is a bit faster than Selyne, with the same Stamina as Selyne and Xenolord - enough to earn its place among the best. Its problem: it's a mount with a dual animation (flying and walking) that struggles to stay airborne over water. Unlike others, it drops to the surface and doesn't recover Stamina until it gets out of the water.

8. Shadowbeak

The safe bet for the midgame. You can safely capture Shadowbeak around level 45 and craft its saddle at level 47. It shares Selyne's speed with slightly less Stamina, but its partner skill makes it faster in flight. A mount that will stick with you until you unlock the higher-ranked Pals on this list.

Honorable mention: Suzaku

Suzaku has one of the largest Stamina pools in the game - enough to reach Sunreach without going through a portal. Relatively slow compared to the others, it remains a reliable mount, even if it's not the fastest.

In summary, aim for Xenolord or Jetragon in the late game for speed and stamina, Panthalus for ocean crossings, and keep Shadowbeak as an excellent transitional mount from the midgame onward.

Frequently asked questions

Do you really need to wait until level 60+ to get a good flying mount?
No. Shadowbeak can be captured as early as level 45, and its saddle is craftable at level 47. It's a solid mount that will comfortably carry you through to the late game without forcing you to grind for the most powerful Pals right away.
Why is Xenolord better than Jetragon if the latter is faster?
Because speed alone isn't everything. Xenolord flies three times longer than average thanks to its naturally outsized Stamina, giving it absolute aerial superiority. Jetragon leaves you stranded in the short term without Stamina passives.
Which Pal should you choose to cross oceans without interruption?
Panthalus. It suffers no Stamina loss while flying, letting you connect islands without fatigue. Its massive size makes maneuvering cumbersome, but it's unmatched for long journeys.
Is Shaolong really worth it despite its low Stamina?
Yes, if you're willing to invest in Stamina passives. It's the second-fastest Pal after Jetragon, and its Dragon/Water typing lets you pick up items at sea while flying — a strategic edge few mounts offer.
Does Frostallion have a major drawback compared to the others?
Yes: unlike other mounts, it drops to the water's surface and doesn't recover Stamina until it gets out of the water. During ocean exploration, that's a frustrating handicap found nowhere else.

Key takeaways

  • Xenolord crushes the competition thanks to its outsized Stamina, allowing flights three times longer than normal.
  • Jetragon is the fastest Pal in the game, ideal for express hunts, but its low Stamina requires compensating passives.
  • Shadowbeak (level 47) is THE reliable transition mount from the middle of the adventure onward, before you can access late-game monsters.
  • Panthalus flies for hours without tiring, perfect for oceans, but its huge silhouette makes it hard to maneuver.
  • Judging a mount on speed alone means missing the point: Stamina and maneuverability make all the difference in exploration.
