Palia: getting ready for Insect-a-Palooza from August 17 to 24 — Shimmerflies, Flutterfox and Phoenixfire Riffroc

Insect-a-Palooza returns to Palia from August 17 to 24, 2026. One week, not a day more — and the bug-catching event lands squarely during the Great Shimmerfly Migration that comes with the 0.205 "Sunkissed Summer: Beauty and the Beach" update.

You have five days left to arrive prepared. Here's what matters, and above all what you need to have unlocked before it opens, because some of these conditions take several sessions.

Editor's note: the labels below are those used in the client, as published by Singularity 6. The 0.205 patch notes haven't been released in French, so we're keeping the original names rather than improvising translations.

The Shimmerflies: the update's time-limited content

The Great Shimmerfly Migration fills the twilight sky over Kilima for a limited time. It's the return of one of Palia's best-received content pieces, and it follows a simple rule: Shimmerflies appear at dusk, not at noon.

Catching them can yield rare plushies, the reward category most sought after by decorators. And an Auni-led Shimmerfly challenge is available on the notice board: it's by far the best time-to-reward ratio of the period, because it rewards an activity you were going to do anyway.

What to do before the 17th: scout your capture spots at dusk, and above all clear space in your inventory. Nothing ruins a migration evening like a full bag after twenty minutes.

Flutterfox: the unlock to start today, not next week

This is the point in this guide you really shouldn't drag your feet on. The Flutterfox, the new ranching animal in 0.205, can't be bought: it has to be tamed. And the chain of requirements is longer than it looks:

• reach Ranching level 10;
• this level unlocks Flutterhoney at the Amber Echo Store;
• a bit of Flutterhoney is then enough to befriend a wild Flutterfox and settle it into your pen.

Once at the ranch, it produces Silky Fluff. If your Ranching level is still far from 10, that's the task to tackle this week: leveling up the skill takes time, and no amount of gold speeds it up.

Phoenixfire Riffroc: the mount that cooks

0.205 also introduces the Phoenixfire Riffroc, a rare mount variant of the Riffroc — the rideable version of the Phoenixfire Dawnspur's fiery aesthetic, long requested by the community.

Its appeal isn't purely cosmetic. It produces grilled dishes and improves stamina management while mounted. For a player who spends their evenings running back and forth between Kilima and Bahari, that's a real quality-of-life gain, not just a skin.

It's a rare creature: don't count on it as a plannable goal, treat it as a bonus if it crosses your path during the event week.

Path of the Briar: to decide beforehand, not during

The new lunar path, the Path of the Briar, offers fairy-tale-inspired rewards: cosmetics, furniture, and a brand-new potion that temporarily grants shadow wings. The premium version costs 1,625 Palia Coins.

Our recommendation is the same as for all progression passes: decide before the event. Insect-a-Palooza is going to generate a lot of activity, and therefore a lot of progression. Buying the premium version on August 23rd, the day before it closes, means paying for tiers you won't have time to work through. If the content appeals to you, the decision needs to be made now.

The two new social features in the update

0.205 brings the game's first two-player dance, "Heart of Gold", with a synchronized choreography. A detail few players have noticed: special vocal versions trigger when both partners wear matching outfits — the Briar's Grace and Bestial Formality sets. Something to keep community photographers busy during the event week.

On the quality-of-life side, the friends list goes from 200 to 250 slots. It may seem minor, but Insect-a-Palooza is a community event: players who kept maxing out their list before every big update will get some breathing room.

Other tweaks worth knowing about

• The Temple of the Gales has been made more accessible, with simplified objectives. If you'd given up on it, now's the time to go back.
• A setting to disable visual effects for outfits' idle animations has been added — useful on lower-end setups, and on Switch.
• Controller input issues have been fixed across all console platforms.
• The limited-time summer event has been extended by an additional week with 0.205.

The checklist for the five days left

Concretely, before Monday, August 17th:

• Push your husbandry to level 10 — it's the update's only long-term prerequisite, and it gates the Flutterfox;
• Clear out your inventory and storage chests before capture week;
• Settle the Path of the Briar question, so you can enjoy it for the whole duration of the event;
• Scout out Shimmerfly spots at dusk, so you don't spend the first evening searching;
• Complete Auni's challenge on the bulletin board as soon as it appears in your rotation.

Insect-a-Palooza lasts seven days. Those who arrive on the 17th with husbandry at level 10 and an empty inventory will get twice as much out of it as those who discover the prerequisites on the day itself.
