Halo: Campaign Evolved — LTouCA (LASO) guide: the 17 skulls, the rules and the LEGENDARY achievement
In brief
Halo: Campaign Evolved features the LTouCA mode, a French LASO preset activating 17 specific skulls and unlocking the essential MYTHIC achievement for the 1,000 G or the platinum trophy. This guide lists the 17 skulls with their effects, details the mode's rules — including the Iron skull which works differently in solo and co-op — and provides the strategic reflexes needed to survive this extreme difficulty.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is the first entry in the saga to include an official LASO preset, renamed LTouCA in the French version — for « Légendaire Tous Crânes Activés » (Legendary All Skulls Active). The name is a bit misleading: the mode only activates 17 of the game's 42 skulls, a tighter selection made by Halo Studios that rules out anything that would make life easier for the Master Chief, starting with the Bandana skull and its unlimited ammo.
Two conditions stand out from official sources and press previews for unlocking it: having completed the campaign once already, and owning all 17 skulls the preset activates, all of which can be picked up throughout the missions. The reward matches the effort: the MYTHIC achievement, worth 50 G on Xbox and a gold trophy on PS5, essential for both the 1,000 G and the « Full Evolution » platinum.
This guide provides the list of the 17 skulls with their official English labels and effects, the exact rules of the mode — including the behavior of the Iron skull, which is radically different in solo play versus co-op — and the reflexes that separate a serious attempt from a night of frustration. For mission-by-mission progression on regular Legendary, our dedicated guide remains valid: here, we focus on what the skulls change.
How to unlock the LTouCA preset
Skulls are collected at a rate of three per mission: 30 across the ten missions carried over from Halo: Combat Evolved and 9 in the three new missions of the Operation: METEORITE arc, for a total of 39 skulls to find. The remaining three — Adaptation, Reload, and Armistice — are awarded upon unlocking the campaign Remix and are not part of the LTouCA selection.
That said, there's no need to chase all 42: only the 17 skulls listed below determine whether the dedicated entry appears in the campaign selection menu, once you've finished your first playthrough. If you're going for the collection achievements anyway, you might as well grab them all in one go with our guide to the 42 skull locations.
One last useful point: LTouCA is played on Legendary, and difficulties are cumulative in Campaign Evolved. Completing the campaign in this mode therefore also clears the lower tiers if you had skipped them.
The 17 activated skulls: English labels and effects
The names below are the official English labels, confirmed by Halo.fr. Watch out for lookalikes: several achievements share a name close to their skull — « Vengeance! » with an exclamation point is the achievement, « Vengeance » on its own is the skull.
| Skull (EN) | Original Name | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Iron | Iron | Dying solo restarts the entire mission; in co-op, the team returns to the last checkpoint. |
| Black Eye | Black Eye | Shields only recharge by melee-striking enemies, with a possible overcharge. |
| Fog | Fog | Motion tracker disabled. |
| Famine | Famine | Weapons dropped by enemies contain half as much ammo. |
| Thunderstorm | Thunderstorm | Enemies are promoted to higher ranks. |
| Mythic | Mythic | Enemies have more health. |
| Grunt Birthday Party | Grunt Birthday Party | A headshot on a Grunt triggers confetti and cheers. |
| IWHBYD | IWHBYD | Characters' rare lines become more frequent. |
| Boom | Boom | Explosion radius doubled. |
| Eye Patch | Eye Patch | Aim assist disabled on all weapons. |
| Grunt Funeral | Grunt Funeral | Every killed Grunt explodes like a plasma grenade. |
| Malfunction | Malfunction | Each time you respawn, a random HUD element disappears. |
| That's Just... Wrong | That's Just... Wrong | Enemies detect you more easily. |
| Speed Limit | Speed Limit | Sprint disabled. |
| Pop | Pop | Hitting the Flood's weak points causes explosions. |
| Temperamental | Temperamental | Enemies become more aggressive when you kill their allies. |
| Johnny Ammo Seed | Johnny Ammo Seed | Reloading loses the remaining ammo in the magazine. |
The rules that change everything
The Iron skull defines the mode all by itself. In solo play, every death restarts the mission from the beginning, checkpoints ignored. In co-op, a death simply sends the team back to the last checkpoint. The difficulty gap between the two approaches is enormous, and it's perfectly legitimate to take advantage of it: nothing forces you to play solo.
Another strict rule: difficulty modifiers — the assist options offered by the game, not to be confused with skulls — block the MYTHIC achievement as soon as a single one is active, whether on your end or a teammate's. They also lock ten achievements in total. Before each session, check every participant's menu: a forgotten assist can invalidate hours of effort.

Seven reflexes to survive the LASO run
1. Melee is your recharge station
With Black Eye, shields only recharge by melee-striking an enemy, with a possible overcharge as a bonus. Every skirmish must therefore be planned around a target to finish off in melee. And since That's Just... Wrong makes enemies quicker to spot you, the right loop is to flank, strike from behind, and pull back before the counterattack.
2. Never melee a Grunt
Grunt Funeral turns every killed Grunt into a plasma grenade, and Boom doubles the radius of explosions: finishing one off in melee is basically suicide, even as Blind Eye pushes you into close range. Save your melee strikes for other enemies and handle Grunts from a distance — the confetti from Grunt Birthday Party will confirm your headshots.
3. Empty your clips before reloading
Eleventh Hour Reload throws away the remaining ammo in the clip every time you reload, while Famine cuts the reserves of picked-up weapons in half. The discipline to adopt: only reload an empty clip, alternate between two weapons, and replace your own guns often with ones found on the battlefield rather than reloading a half-full clip.
4. The plasma combo remains king
Thunderstorm promotes enemies to higher ranks and Mythic inflates their health: it becomes impossible to take down an Elite with human weapons alone. A charged plasma pistol shot pops the shields, and a headshot right after finishes the job. It's the standard routine of every historic LASO run, and it has never been more essential.
5. Without sprint, every movement comes at a cost
No Sprint disables the sprint added by the remake. Crossing an exposed area becomes a deadly gamble again, especially since Fog deprives you of the motion tracker. Play the cover system like it's 2001, and treat every vehicle as a precious resource not to be abandoned behind you.
6. Learn to aim without a safety net
Cowbell removes aim assist from all weapons, and Malfunction can make an element of the HUD disappear every time you respawn, including the reticle. Favor forgiving weapons, keep a mental reference point at the center of the screen if the reticle vanishes, and rely on the sound of your shield when its indicator is missing.
7. Kill in the right order
With Vengeance, every enemy taken down makes the survivors more aggressive. Letting an engagement drag on means facing increasingly worked-up opponents: open fire on the most dangerous higher-ranked enemies first, finish off groups quickly, and never start a fight you can't finish.
Solo or co-op? Online, without hesitation
Co-op keeps checkpoints despite Iron: that's the deciding factor. The game supports up to four players online with full crossplay between consoles and PC, while two-player split-screen remains exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series.
A warning is in order: since launch — and the July 29 update hasn't changed this — split-screen only triggers achievements for player 1, and online, some end-of-mission achievements only unlock for the host. For a challenge of this scale, favor online co-op, and if one player cares more than the others about the trophy, let them host the session.
One more reminder: a difficulty modifier activated by any squad member locks MYTHIC for everyone. The pre-mission briefing is not optional.
Hotspots to plan for
- The Library: Famine creates a chronic shortage there against the Flood hordes. The Blast skull, which detonates creatures' weak points, becomes a ranged asset — keep the necessary distance to benefit from it without suffering its effects.
- Keyes: narrow corridors, Grunts in large numbers, Boom and Grunt Funeral lying in ambush. Chain explosions are the leading cause of restarted missions here: advance room by room.
- The long vehicle sections: without sprint, losing your vehicle in the middle of Assault on the Control Room or Two Betrayals costs you dearly. Protect it like a teammate.
The most cost-effective prep order isn't up for debate: a first playthrough on Heroic or Legendary while picking up skulls and terminals along the way, then the unlocked Campaign Remix to practice with a custom selection of skulls, followed by LASO online with one or two reliable partners and no active modifiers. The selection of 17 skulls chosen by Halo Studios makes this LASO more readable than those in the Master Chief Collection: tough, demanding, but never absurd. Confetti time.

- The 17 activated skulls are collected throughout the 13 missions, with two mandatory conditions being a completed first playthrough and physical possession of each skull.
- The game's assist modifiers lock out the MYTHIC achievement as soon as a single one is enabled, so you need to check the menu before every session.
- Online co-op is decisive: it preserves checkpoints and supports up to four players with full crossplay.
- Melee becomes a recharge station with Black Eye, but hitting a Grunt is suicidal because of Grunt Birthday Party and Boom.
