Golgra Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - How to Beat Her
In brief
Golgra is one of the toughest encounters in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, with three million health points and devastating attacks. This guide offers you the best strategies, essential Luminas, and rewards to overcome this fearsome boss.
Defeating Golgra, the formidable Gestral chief in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, is one of the toughest challenges in the game. With her three million health points and powerful attacks, beating this opponent is a real challenge that requires proper preparation. These tips will give you the keys to victory and inform you about the rewards that come with it.

Encounters with Golgra
In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you'll encounter Golgra 4 times, each time at a different difficulty level:
- By directly challenging her in the Chief's House in the Gestral Village – the hardest challenge!
- By encountering her in the form of Monoco in the Chief's House – the most "manageable" fight
- By fighting her in the battles of the Gestrals' Underground Arena
- At the Sacred River during Monoco's friendship quest
This first encounter is without a doubt the hardest, but also the most rewarding in terms of prizes. If you're just starting out on the adventure, it's probably best to wait until you're a bit further along in the game before challenging Golgra. On the other hand, facing her when she takes on Monoco's form feels much more accessible right away, even at the start, even though the rewards are lesser.
Note
Good to know for players: if you challenge Golgra, a failed attempt or a defeat against her won't incur any penalty on your progress. So you're free to try the fight, or at worst come back later, better equipped.

Strategy and rewards
Golgra's attack pattern varies between combos of 3 to 6 hits. She also has special attacks that require a jump dodge combined with a Gradient counter, as well as an ability that can only be countered with a Gradient. Her state degrades once she loses 50% of her health, after which Golgra enters a rage state; she then gains the "Powerful" and "Rush" buffs. You can remove them by inflicting "Powerless" or "Slow" on her, but this isn't strictly necessary.
To maximize your chances of victory, equip the following Luminas:
- Overpainted Power (essential, you need to kill the Paintress)
- Accelerating Last Stand (Gestrals' Secret Arena)
- Second Chance (Renoir)
- Basic Shield (Crossroads)
- Critical Last Stand (Gestrals' Secret Arena)
- Protective Last Stand (Gestrals' Secret Arena)
- Lone Wolf (Gestrals' Secret Arena)

For more advanced players, some particularly powerful Luminas can make all the difference:
- Cheater (obtained by defeating Sprong)
- Energy Master (obtained by defeating Serpenphare)
- Cléa's Life (obtained by defeating the boss of the Hanging Manor)
In terms of rewards, defeating Golgra will get you:
- Guaranteed reward: 3 Grand Chroma Catalysts
- Random reward: 1 Recoat
Each character will also receive a specific weapon after triumphing over Golgra. If you already own this weapon at level 27 or higher, it will be converted into Chroma. Otherwise, the weapon will be automatically upgraded!
