In brief

The Season 14 Seasonal Journey is the most rewarding track for any player with a few evenings to spare: 9 ranks, 120+ objectives, and major permanent rewards (12 skill points, 42 paragon points, resplendent sparks). Watch out: everything disappears when Season 15 rolls in, with no way to catch up. Treat early September as your deadline.

The Season of the Death's Awakening has been running since June 30. The Season 15 PTR closed its doors on August 11, which means the transition is approaching — and part of the Season 14 progress will simply cease to exist.

We've covered the season's complete guide, the Pit, the Tower and the leaderboards, the Personal Loot mode and several builds. There's one track we haven't covered on its own, and yet it's the most profitable of the season for a player who only has a few evenings to spare: the Seasonal Journey.

Why it's the best use of your time

The Seasonal Journey is a free progression track. No pass to buy, no locked tier: nine seasonal ranks spread across more than 120 objectives. All of the content is accessible to everyone.

And it gives what no other activity of the season gives as easily, namely permanent character power for the season:

  • Up to 12 skill points
  • Up to 42 paragon points
  • Up to 7 resplendent sparks
  • 5 unique mythic caches
  • The Grisepierre familiar, the Vestiges of the Reaper mount trophy, as well as runes, sigils, charms and stamps

Twelve skill points and forty-two paragon points isn't a cosmetic bonus: it's a considerable power gap, obtained by playing content you're going through anyway.

What you lose if you don't finish

This is the point to keep in mind, and it's what justifies getting started now. The objectives, skill points and paragon points tied to the Season 14 storyline stop being obtainable as soon as Season 15 replaces it.

This isn't a reward you'd recover later: the track disappears with the season. A seasonal character who hasn't completed their Journey permanently loses those points, and there's no catch-up.

The rank structure, and the trap of the last one

The first eight ranks work in the usual way: each groups a series of objectives and unlocks by meeting a quota. A completed rank releases its rewards and the next one.

The bonus rank, on the other hand, changes the rules, and that's where many players get caught out. It requires completing 10 optional objectives chosen from a separate list of more than 20 challenges. It's not the objectives from previous ranks that count: it's a separate list.

Two practical consequences. First, read this list early, because some of its challenges require activities you don't stumble upon by chance. Second, choose your ten rather than trying to do them all: the rank is validated at the tenth, the eleven remaining ones give nothing more.

What each chapter actually rewards

To give an idea of the rewards' pace, two milestones noted across this season's chapters:

  • At the end of the Dark Enclave: 2 skill points, 4 Paragon points, the Season's Laurels, a unique Mythic Journey cache, an Archetype cache, a Solemn Reflection, 100 Forgotten Souls, 1 Smoldering Ash, and a Lair key.
  • At the end of the Apostate's Lair: 1 skill point, 4 Paragon points, the Reaper's Remains mount trophy, an Archetype cache, a Solemn Reflection, 200 Forgotten Souls, 2 Smoldering Ashes, and a Greater Lair key.

Note the presence of the Lair keys and Greater Lair keys: these are the access keys for Lair bosses. The Journey therefore directly funds the hunt for Mythic uniques, making it a useful track even for an already well-geared player.

What order to tackle it in

A reasonable plan for the coming weeks:

  1. Open the Journey and read the bonus tier list first. It's the only thing that requires planning; everything else falls into place as you play.
  2. Do the objectives that overlap with your routine. Many are validated through content you're already grinding — Whispers, Nightmare Dungeons, Lair bosses. Don't level a separate character just for this.
  3. Cash in skill and Paragon points as soon as they drop. They make everything after easier; holding them in reserve serves no purpose.
  4. Save endgame objectives for last, once your character has the necessary power. A Pit challenge early in the season costs three times as much time as the same challenge fifteen Paragon levels later.
  5. Don't count on the last weekend. Some objectives depend on rotating events; leaving them until the last minute means risking getting stuck on content that isn't up.

How much time is left, exactly?

We have to be honest here: Blizzard has not published an official end date for Season 14. The in-game seasonal timer and the usual season cadence point to September 15, 2026, roughly 77 days from the June 30 launch — but until Blizzard confirms it, this date remains a community projection, not an official deadline.

Our recommendation is therefore conservative: treat early September as your deadline. If the season runs longer, you'll have extra time to push the Pit or the leaderboards. If it ends sooner, you'll have lost nothing.

A note for those already prepping for Season 15

Finishing the Journey isn't incompatible with preparing for what's next. As a reminder, Season 15 will bring Rebirth, which lets you convert a character to Eternal without losing anything — a topic we've covered separately. Wrapping up your Journey now and then switching over remains perfectly sensible: seasonal skill and Paragon points don't carry over, but the gear and materials gathered along the way retain value that survives the season.

Frequently asked questions

Can I recover my Journey rewards after the season ends?
No. Objectives, skill points, and paragon points tied to the Journey stop being obtainable as soon as Season 15 replaces Season 14. There's no catch-up mechanism.
How long does it take to finish the Seasonal Journey?
It depends on your play routine. Most objectives get completed naturally while playing content you're already running (Whispers, Nightmares, bosses). Blizzard hasn't given an official date, but the in-game timer and past history suggest September 15, 2026 — treat early September as your conservative deadline.
Why is the bonus rank a trap?
Unlike the first eight ranks, the bonus rank requires completing 10 objectives from a separate list of over 20 challenges. Some of these challenges call for rare or rotating activities, which is why it's important to read the list early and not leave it to the last minute.
Is it worth finishing the Journey if I'm already prepping for Season 15?
Yes. Seasonal points don't carry over, but the gear and materials gathered along the way keep their value. Finishing the Journey now and then switching over via the Eternal Realm remains perfectly sound.
Do I need to create a character dedicated to the Journey?
No. Progress your objectives through your usual routine and bank the points as they come in: they make the rest of the game easier. Save the end-game challenges for when your character has the power needed to tackle them.

Key takeaways

  • The free Journey grants 12 skill points and 42 paragon points — a significant power gap, not a cosmetic reward
  • Objectives and rewards disappear permanently with the season: zero catch-up possible after the switch
  • The bonus rank traps a lot of players: read its list early, since some challenges call for activities you won't stumble into by chance
  • The Journey funds your mythic hunt through the stronghold keys included in each chapter's rewards
  • Start with objectives that overlap your usual routine (Whispers, Nightmares, bosses) rather than creating a dedicated character
