Dead by Daylight 2v8: the mode returns on August 19, 2026 with Play While You Wait, 3 maps and the return of The Legion
In brief
Dead by Daylight's 2v8 mode returns on August 19, 2026 with a real game-changer: Play While You Wait, which lets killers in queue play survivor without losing their spot. Three brand-new maps, two reworked classes, and the return of The Legion round out this two-week iteration.
Three days before launch, the right question is no longer "what is 2v8" but "what's changing in it". This iteration of the 2-killer-versus-8-survivor mode arrives with a beta that tackles the mode's biggest flaw, killer-side queue times, three additional maps, two reworked survivor classes, the return of a killer that had been sidelined, and 50,000 Bloodpoints per day logged in.
2v8 reopens on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at 11 a.m. ET, i.e. 5 p.m. Paris time, and closes on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 11 a.m. ET. Two full weeks, then, and not the seven days announced for the previous window.
A correction is in order right away, including on our own pages: the "August 11 to 18, 2026" window we published on August 6 is incorrect, and the official wiki still shows those outdated dates too. The dates to remember are indeed August 19 and September 2, confirmed by the post published on deadbydaylight.com and by the game's official account. For those who have never launched the mode, the concept can be summed up in two sentences: two killers face off against eight survivors on enlarged maps, with Corruption Cages in place of hooks. Each side chooses a Class that replaces the usual perks — Brute, Slaughterer, Fear Monger, or Wraith on the killer side, Escapist, Guide, Medic, Scout, or Flame Bearer on the survivor side.
Play While You Wait: the killer in queue can join a survivor match without losing their spot
This is the real novelty of this window, and it addresses complaint number one about 2v8: endless killer-side queues, mechanically unavoidable in a mode that requires eight survivors for two killers. Behaviour sums it up as follows, in a phrasing we are translating: killer players will, if they wish, be able to play a match in the 2v8 survivor queue while keeping their place in the killer queue.
Specifically, rather than staring at a menu for long minutes, you go play a full match as a survivor; at the end of it, your position in the killer queue is automatically restored to you. To help decide between "I'm leaving" and "I'm staying in the menu", the estimated wait time is displayed in the interface.
Two caveats: the feature is announced as a beta, so adjustments should be expected, and Behaviour has not published a French post about it. The name Play While You Wait remains in English; a French phrasing, "Jouez pendant que vous attendez", had been spotted in early August on the summer event page; it no longer appears there today, and no wording has been confirmed in the client.

Three maps are added: Greenville Square, Treatment Theatre, and The Devastated Shore
Behaviour presents three maps as additions in this iteration. Here are their official French labels, as used by the client, along with their realm and their original English name:
- Greenville Square (Greenville Square), realm of Withered Isle (whose French name has not been confirmed);
- Treatment Theatre (Treatment Theatre), realm of the Léry's Memorial Institute;
- The Shattered Square (The Shattered Square), realm of Borgo.
A detail that matters for your movements: on Greenville Square, the French-language wiki notes double pallets in a dangerous version, whereas they are safe elsewhere. The loop you usually play with confidence on this type of structure is therefore unforgiving here.
Source caveat: this same wiki already lists these three environments under an earlier iteration, whereas Behaviour is announcing them as new, and its map table is inconsistent. We are therefore giving no total.
The Guide unlocks a Blast Mine at 40% repair and a Hidden Wiretap at 35%
The Guide class, the one that directs teammates toward objectives, gains an offensive dimension against generator pressure:
- after the equivalent of 40% repair progress on a generator, the Guide obtains a Blast Mine;
- after 35% repair progress, a Wiretap is automatically installed.
Added to this is the perk Wake Up! (Wake Up!). Both thresholds trigger before a generator is completed: a Guide who moves from one machine to another, abandoning repairs midway, still accumulates these tools. These figures come from a pre-release announcement and remain subject to adjustment.
The Fugitive trades a permanent effect for an ability triggered at the moment of the player's choosing
The Fugitive, the class built around fleeing and outmaneuvering, is changing in nature: it receives an active ability, triggerable by the player whenever they see fit. Upon activation, all survivors near the Fugitive get a temporary sprint speed boost and have their hurried actions (Rushed Actions; no French label recorded to date) made silent.
The second effect is the most interesting in practice: it is precisely vaulting through windows and rushed actions that give away a position through noise. A squad that unhooks together after a cage rescue can therefore scatter without the killers following the sound. Behaviour has not specified whether the class's current values — an 8-meter radius, a 30-second cooldown — survive this overhaul.
The Legion returns, shorter in Feral Frenzy but faster at downing survivors
The Legion had been removed from 2v8 since its sixth iteration — the French-language wiki, incidentally, still lists it among the excluded killers. It returns with adjustments pulling in both directions:
- time spent in Feral Frenzy (Feral Frenzy) slightly reduced;
- number of targets visible via Killer Instinct reduced;
- terror radius bonus from the Susie's Mixtape add-on removed — this add-on has no published French label, so we keep the English name;
- on the other hand, fewer hits are needed to down a survivor during Feral Frenzy.
The rebalance is therefore not a simple nerf: The Legion sees its window of action and its information trimmed, but gains raw efficiency during that window. Here again, these are pre-release announcements.
50,000 Bloodpoints per day, three cosmetics for a single completed match
The game's official account announces 50,000 Bloodpoints per day logged in until September 2. The official website's post, for its part, mentions daily login rewards without specifying figures. Third-party outlets put forward a cumulative total incompatible with a fourteen-day window: we are sticking with the daily amount.
On the cosmetics side, completing a single 2v8 match unlocks three items account-wide: the Gory Piñata charm, the Life of the Party portrait for Dwight, and the Sharing Time portrait for Claudette. None of these names have received an official French label: look for them in English in your store.
What remains unconfirmed three days before launch
- The list of playable killers for this iteration has not been published by any official source: we will not put forward either a list or a total.
- The total number of maps in rotation is inconsistent from one source to another.
- The numerical values of the reworks for the Guide and the Fugitive are announcements, not patch notes.
Let us finally recall that Behaviour does not translate everything: the French page for the summer event does indeed exist, but the post dedicated to this iteration of 2v8 has no French version — the address /fr/nouvelles/2v8-play-while-you-wait/ does respond, but returns the English text. Anything too recent for the French-language wiki thus remains to be read in English.
Key dates to remember
| Milestone | Date | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| 2v8 opens | Wednesday, August 19, 2026 | 5 p.m. Paris time (11 a.m. ET) |
| Login reward | Every day until September 2 | 50,000 Bloodpoints |
| 2v8 closes | Wednesday, September 2, 2026 | 5 p.m. Paris time (11 a.m. ET) |
Fourteen days, then, to test the Play While You Wait beta, explore the three added maps, and judge whether the reworked Guide and Fugitive live up to their promises. And if there's only one thing to remember: the mode did not return on August 11, it opens on the 19th.
