Where to find capuchins

Capuchin monkeys only appear in two places, both located in the Serranilla region, all the way south on the map:

Misteriosa Island - coordinates (269, 173)
New Bone Island - coordinates (402, 89)

Upon arriving at either one, start by synchronizing at the viewpoint. The capuchin monkey icon will then appear on the map and show you exactly where to look. Without that, you're wandering around for nothing.

How to hunt the capuchin

Once in the indicated area, equip the sleep dart before approaching. Activate Eagle Vision and look up into the trees - the monkey appears highlighted in red among the branches. It's discreet, you really need to look up.

Shoot a sleep dart at the animal. It falls to the ground. Approach the unconscious body and you'll automatically collect a capuchin monkey skin. Simple on paper, but the real problem is that the monkey may simply not be there.

The monkey isn't spawning: what to do

This is the most frequent issue reported by players regarding this resource. The spawn rate is genuinely low. If you arrive at the location and nothing happens:

Fast travel to another region
Let some in-game time pass
Return to the island - the monkey should have respawned

Another thing to keep in mind: the monkeys aren't always exactly on the map icon. They're often scattered among the surrounding trees, a few meters from the indicated position. Sweep the area with your Eagle Vision.

Buying skins instead of farming them

If you're short on time or the RNG has worn you out, there's a direct alternative. Any General Store on the map sells capuchin skins. The rate: 1 skin for 4 bones. It's bartering, not spending money.

Since bones are easier to farm, this is often the fastest route to unlocking the few skins you need, especially if you're saving up for the legendary pistol (see below).
