In brief

Minecraft is rolling out Chaos Cubed, an experimental update available on Java and Bedrock that introduces sulfur caves, two new ores, and above all the sulfur cube, a groundbreaking mob capable of absorbing block properties to create dynamic traps and puzzles.

With the Chaos Cubed update, Minecraft delivers one of its most experimental drops yet. Rolled out simultaneously on Java and Bedrock, version 26.2 introduces a new underground biome, finally brand-new blocks, but above all a mob fully designed for systemic gameplay.

At the heart of this update are the sulfur caves, a biome that stands in stark contrast to classic caverns. The yellowed, reddish galleries house two new ores (sulfur and cinnabar) offered with a complete building set - raw blocks, cut variants, stairs, slabs and walls to enrich builders' palettes. Stagnant water on sulfur blocks generates a dangerous gas that affects both players and creatures: exploration now comes with a price of risk management.

The star of Chaos Cubed remains, however, the sulfur cube, a chaotic mob capable of absorbing a block placed directly on the ground or given by the player in order to acquire its physical properties – a light jump with wool, the metallic heaviness of iron, an uncontrolled slide with ice... Once loaded, the cube freezes in place, leaving it to the player who loaded it to hit it in order to control its orientation, for example to build traps, puzzles, or homemade minigames. Mojang rounds it all out with new decorative blocks and social features such as Parties on Bedrock, which make it easier to organize multiplayer sessions.
