Minecraft stands among the flagship video game franchises, created by Markus "Notch" Persson and developed since then by Mojang Studios, recently acquired by Xbox Game Studios. Officially launched in 2011 after an already legendary beta phase, it has become a cultural phenomenon over time thanks to a simplistic concept: a world made of blocks to mine, place, and transform in order to build almost anything imaginable.
Over time, Minecraft has spawned several editions and experiences: the historic Java version on PC, the cross-platform Bedrock Edition, but also spin-offs such as Minecraft Dungeons, a cooperative action-RPG, or Minecraft Legends, a blend of strategy and action. At the center of the saga, however, remains the unmatched sandbox of the original game, continuously fueled by an extremely active community of creators, modders, and multiplayer servers with sometimes completely abstract rules.
