In brief

Fable dropped a 17-second teaser on Friday that offers a glimpse of a never-before-seen female face ahead of the Xbox presentation at Gamescom on Wednesday. Character redesign or heroine created with the publisher? The mystery remains before director Ralph Fulton's reveals.

Fable's official account, @fable, posted a seventeen-second teaser on Friday, August 21 that ends on an unprecedented close-up: a female face never shown before. It genuinely comes from the game's verified account, not a third-party relay.

The edit is terse. A wide shot of Bowerstone, a title card announcing "new Fable gameplay" on the Xbox gamescom broadcast, Wednesday, August 26, then barely four seconds of gameplay: camera behind a hero filmed from the back, the "The Last of the Greats" quest, a sword strike and an electric spell. The face then appears, lit by a stained-glass window, for less than a second. No dialogue, no name on screen.

We reopened the 2023 cinematic to compare: dark curly hair, freckles, nothing in common. A model overhaul, a different character, or a heroine crafted with the publisher? The video doesn't settle it. And Fable lets everyone create their own hero: what a trailer shows isn't what the game imposes.

Answer tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. Paris time, with Ralph Fulton, game director. Release date: February 23, 2027.
