The different battle modes in Pokémon Champions

Players of Pokémon Champions are invited to take part in different types of battles. This article goes over the three main types of battles: ranked battles, casual battles, and private battles.

Ranked battles

Ranked battles are at the heart of the Pokémon Champions experience. This mode is aimed at players who want to test their skills in competitive battling. All players start their journey with an initial rank, usually the lowest one that exists, after completing the tutorial. This rank will then evolve based on match results.

Rank is at the core of the system, allowing players of similar levels to face each other. Indeed, the rank a player builds up will change depending on their results, win or loss, at the end of the match they play.

Note

That said, it should be noted that a single win or loss is not enough to change your rank; you need to string together several matches. So players on a winning streak will see their rank climb more quickly.

The glowing bars surrounding the rank icon indicate progress toward the next tier.

The rules of ranked battles can also differ depending on the regulation set; for example, the M-A imposes specific rules for singles battles (3 vs 3) and doubles battles (4 vs 4), and gives players a time limit to respect for each match.

Casual battles

These are here to offer an alternative mode that's less stressful than ranked battles: casual battles let you face other players without it affecting your rank. In this mode, you can experiment with new teams or strategies without fear of losing rank points.

Private battle rules

Less strict than the rules of ranked battles, the rules of private battles are nevertheless generally similar: you put together a team of six Pokémon, and all combatants must be chosen freely for each match. For private battles, you need to create a battle room to allow players to face each other more intimately. Customization options remain limited, however.

A player creates a room and invites their friends to join, but for now, it is not possible to choose the rules or change how the battles will play out.
