In brief

The modification station is a key element of Subnautica 2 for upgrading your tools and vehicles. Find out how to unlock its blueprint by exploring the alien ruins east of your life pod, then install it in your base to access all available modifications.

In Subnautica 2, the modification station is essential for upgrading both your tools and your vehicles, particularly the Tadpole. Let's find out how to unlock this station and use it.

The modification station blueprint

To unlock the modification station, you need to scan a specific blueprint. While several are available, we'll focus on the most accessible one. Head east about 1300 meters from your survival pod, and at that distance you'll find the alien ruins. The Research Station is located at a depth of around 140 meters, to the left of a large alien tower.

Tip

If you go too deep, use the space bar to quickly return to the surface.

Once you've reached the entrance to the Ruins, head right to find the Engine Efficiency upgrade, then continue through the main tunnel and turn right to discover the modification station. All that's left is to scan it to unlock its blueprint.

Using the modification station

Once you have the blueprint, head back to your base to install the modification station, using your habitat builder and the necessary resources. Once you open it, you'll have access to the list of all modifications.

All you have to do now is choose the one you want to apply, and it will be automatically installed as soon as you've used the Modification Station.
