Alien

The Alien franchise, launched by filmmaker Ridley Scott in 1979, is essentially the archetype of horror science fiction. Its universe focuses on the Colonial Marines grappling with Xenomorphs, creatures whose blood is actually acid, while perpetuating the fundamental fear of the unknown in space. Aliens (1986) by James Cameron cements the shift from survival horror to frenzied action, whose iconic figure remains Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver as a badass icon.

On the video game side, the beginnings take place in the 80s on arcade systems and ZX Spectrum, before exploding with Aliens: Colonial Marines (1999, vs. become cult) and especially Alien: Isolation (2014), a true stealth masterpiece, where the Alien relentlessly hunts Amanda Ripley through a nearly empty space station.

On the cooperative side, notable mentions include Aliens: Fireteam Elite (2021), a 3-player shooter against xenomorph hordes praised for the quality of its gameplay despite the unrecoverable bugs of its launch weekend, whose sequel Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 was officially announced in May 2026 by Cold Iron Studios and Daybreak.
