Rapidium The Alters Last Variable: where to find it in the DLC
In brief
Rapidium is the essential resource in the Last Variable DLC for progressing and creating alters. Accessible from the very first hours, there are three key deposits to know about: a shallow deposit south of the base, a second one at the Oasis, and above all a huge underground deposit that requires building a mining outpost to exploit it.
Rapidium is the central resource of the Last Variable DLC for The Alters. Without it, you can't create new alters or progress. The good news: deposits are accessible from the very first hours - as long as you know where to look and prepare your infrastructure before setting off.
First deposit: due south from the base
Leave the base and head south. You'll quickly come across a shallow Rapidium deposit located at the foot of a climbable cliff. This first deposit is enough to craft your very first alter. Don't turn back just yet, though.
Climb the cliff next to the deposit. Be careful: if you haven't yet unlocked the skill that reduces the energy cost of climbing, the ascent will cost you 6 energy bars. As a result, you'll arrive at the top with zero energy, unable to scan the ground to locate the large Rapidium source hidden in the next area.

The Fast Travel Pylon trick
To work around the energy problem, here's what to do after climbing up:
- Take the path to the right at the top of the cliff and head back toward the base without jumping down.
- Place a Fast Travel Pylon on the edge of the cliff.
- Connect it to the base via regular Pylons.
You'll now be able to teleport directly to the top of the cliff without spending any energy at all. A quick investment that saves you numerous exhausting round trips.
The Oasis and the second shallow deposit
Once at the top, you'll discover the Oasis region. On the opposite side of this area, a second deposit awaits you. Follow the path to the left to reach it. Along the way, a few small Rapidium packs are lying on the ground - pick them up as you pass.
You'll also encounter a time dilation anomaly. Go around it via the sides to avoid wasting time. Nothing game-breaking, but it's best not to rush straight into it.

The big underground node: a mandatory Mining Outpost
Continue along the path to the right after the second deposit. An intense light emerges from the ground - this is the largest Rapidium source in the area. It's an underground deposit: you can't collect it manually. You absolutely need infrastructure for it.
Here's how to exploit it:
- Use scanners to locate the position of the mining outpost.
- Build it at that spot.
- Connect it to the base with Pylons - or directly to the Fast Travel Pylon placed earlier on the cliff.
Important
The mining outpost is not optional. Later in the game, you'll come back to place an Extractor on this same node and connect it to a Phaser built on a Geyser (those spots where water gushes out).
