In brief

Pokémon Champions offers the ability to challenge your friends in custom duels. This guide explains how to add friends, create private battle rooms with specific rules, and participate in online battles.

In Pokémon Champions, engaging in a duel against friends is one of the most enjoyable aspects. In this article, you'll discover how to set up friendly battles, add friends and lend a hand to your fellow trainers.

How to add friends in Pokémon Champions

Before you can play with your friends, the first step is to add them to your friend list in-game. In the main menu, open the sub-menu by pressing the corresponding button on your Nintendo Switch console. Press the X button to display your ID. Write it down, or copy it.

You can choose to give your ID to your friend, or enter your friend's ID in the menu to send them a friend request. Once your friend has accepted your request, you'll be able to battle them with your team.

Creating a friendly battle

In the main menu, go to the option to create a battle between friends; before finalizing the room's creation, you'll have the option to set the battle rules, meaning determine which Pokémon can be used, in addition to other rules. Then, once the room is created, press the X button to get your room ID, and give it to your friends so they can join your room.

Note

Don't forget to clearly communicate the battle rules to all participants, to avoid any confusion.

Taking part in battles with strangers

You can also enter a public lobby where other players are present, and the matchmaking system will fill your team with other players, even if they're not on your friend list.

Note

Beware, Pokémon Champions doesn't offer a local offline PvP mode, so you'll need a stable internet connection to play. You can't yet access your preselected team in a friendly battle against other players. You have to go through matchmaking with strangers.

Game updates could change this situation in the future, but for now you'll have to abide by these game rules.
