Palworld Yakumo: where to find it and how to use it
In brief
Yakumo is the key Pal for passing traits onto your creatures without going through breeding. Find it on Cherry Blossom Island (level 50-55), craft its saddle at tech level 41, ride it while you're catching, and every Pal you catch will have a 15% chance per trait of inheriting its bonuses.
Yakumo is one of the most useful Pals if you're looking to pass on specific passives to your monsters without systematically going through breeding. The mechanic is simple on paper, but it requires being in the right zone, at the right level, with the right gear. Here's how it works.
Where to find Yakumo
Yakumo can be found on the Sakurajima Island map. This is a mid-late game zone: expect to be around levels 50 to 55 before setting foot there, with gear to match.
Good news on the respawn front: Yakumo is one of the most common species in the region. You won't have to track down a rare Pal that spawns once in a blue moon - it's scattered pretty much everywhere in the area. However, watch out for the Pal spheres used for capture. At these game levels, standard balls are no longer enough. You'll need at least Ultra Spheres to have a chance at capturing it, otherwise you're wasting your time.

Yakumo's saddle: an essential prerequisite
Yakumo's passive skill doesn't activate automatically. You first need to craft its saddle, unlocked in the tech tree at level 41. You'll need refined metal to craft it. No saddle = no bonus. This is the sine qua non condition before heading out to hunt Yakumo with an optimization goal in mind.
How passive skill inheritance works
Once the saddle is equipped and Yakumo is mounted, its passive skill comes into play during your captures. Every time you capture a Pal in its presence, you have a 15% chance per passive that the captured Pal will inherit the corresponding passive from Yakumo.
The important point: this 15% applies individually to each passive bonus. If your Yakumo has four passives, each one has a separate 15% chance of being passed on. So you could end up with zero passives transferred, or several in a single capture - it's random, but targeted randomness.
Absolute condition
Yakumo must be by your side at the moment of capture. It must be the mounted Pal. If it's on your team but you're not riding it, the skill doesn't activate.

Usage strategy
The logic behind this mechanic encourages farming a Yakumo that already has rainbow passives or the bonuses you're targeting. There are several ways to achieve this:
- Capture several Yakumo in the Sakurajima Island area and choose the one with the right passives.
- Go through breeding to generate a Yakumo with specific passives.
- Use skill fruits if you have some in stock.
Once you have your Yakumo with the desired passives, equip the saddle, mount it, and give it the order not to attack during your captures. If it joins the fight and accidentally kills the targeted Pal, you lose the attempt. Manage its behavior first.
The most effective approach is still to target Pals you want to optimize for the long term - combat or production monsters that will really benefit from well-chosen passives. Using Yakumo on just any random Pal is a waste of time.

Key takeaways
- Yakumo can be caught on Cherry Blossom Island but requires at least Ultra Balls and a team at level 50-55.
- The saddle is mandatory: without it, traits don't get passed on, period.
- You need to ride Yakumo during the capture for its skill to activate – having it in your party isn't enough.
- Each trait has an individual 15% chance of being passed on, so a Yakumo with four traits can give zero or four to the same capture.
- Targeting a Yakumo with the right starting traits (through selective capture or breeding) pays off more than using just any random specimen.
