You can even build your own ponds at your base to automate the whole thing.
Palworld has welcomed the "Tides of Terraria" update, and here, we're going to explain how to become a fishing master! Although it's a new feature in Palworld, it allows you to fish for aquatic Pals like your Fish. You can thus catch Pals as fish, or gather resources directly.
Crafting Fishing Rods and Bait
To get started with fishing in Palworld, you'll first need to craft the necessary equipment! The essential piece of gear is the fishing rod, which comes in three models with different performances. All fishing rods are crafted at a Production Line. Here are the materials needed to craft them, and their characteristics:
- Beginner Fishing Kit (Level 15): 10 Paldium Fragments, 3 Pal Fluids, 8 Ingots and 8 Fiber
- Intermediate Fishing Rod (Level 28): 30 Paldium Fragments, 10 High Quality Pal Oil, 10 Cement and 30 Fiber
- Advanced Fishing Rod (Level 45): 70 Paldium Fragments, 20 High Quality Pal Oil, 15 Pal Metal Ingots and 30 Carbon Fiber
In addition to the fishing rod, you'll need bait. This can be crafted at a Primitive Workbench, a High Quality Workbench, or a Production Line. Simple bait unlocks at the same time as the Beginner Fishing Kit, but you can also craft more effective bait:
- Simple Bait : 2 Pal Fluids, 4 Red Berries, 2 Flour
- High Quality Bait (Level 22): 3 Pal Fluids, 4 Tomatoes, 3 Flour
- Deluxe Bait (Level 38): 4 High Quality Pal Oil, 4 Onions, 3 Carrots, 4 Flour

The higher the quality of the bait, the easier it will be to catch rare Pals during your fishing sessions!
Effective Fishing Techniques
All that's left is to make sure you have your fishing rod and bait ready to go fishing in Palworld. First, you need to find fishing spots, recognizable by the fish shadows visible in the water, which can appear in any type of water across all regions of the game.
When you find a fishing spot, press the cast button to throw your line into the water, an action that will consume bait, then wait for two exclamation points to appear and press the same button to reel in your catch.
This then triggers a mini-game you must complete to fill a progress bar, which involves keeping a golden fish icon inside a green zone, controlled by holding down and then releasing the "Reel in" button. The size of the green zone varies depending on the type of lure used, with, as we've seen, higher quality lures providing a larger zone that's therefore easier to manage.
Once the bar is full, the mini-game ends and you catch a random Pal. While the Pal you get is random, you can get an idea of your catch's rarity based on the visual effects given off by the fish shadows:
- Normal shadow : Standard random Pal
- Purple particles : Potential Alpha Pal
- Green particles : Random Pal with potential Rainbow passive
- Purple particles and glow : Potential Alpha Pal with Rainbow passive
Building Fishing Ponds and Resource Recovery
For players who prefer to fish from the comfort of their base, it's possible to build Fishing Ponds. These structures can vary in size, each offering the possibility of catching larger Pals. Here are the different types of Fishing Ponds available in Palworld :
- Fishing Pond (Level 31): 40 Wood, 5 Cement, 10 Pal Fluids
- Large Fishing Pond (Level 55): 60 Wood, 20 Stone, 10 Plasteel, 20 High Quality Pal Oil
In addition to catching Pals, you'll also be able to recover resources from the seabed using your fishing rod. To do this, you'll need to venture out into the water in search of recovery points, which will appear as floating debris on the ocean's surface. You'll need a sea fish and a fishing rod to fish up these resources. Some recovery points will even require a Powerful Fishing Magnet, unlocked when you reach level 61 and crafted from a Hexolite.
