Palworld 1.0 Wood Plank: how to craft it quickly

In brief

Wooden Planks unlock at level 15 in the tech tree. The recipe requires 10 Wood, 5 Fiber, and 1 Nail — nothing complicated in itself, but the crafting chain gets longer if you're starting from scratch, especially for Nails. Automating via a Production Line speeds up the work.

Wood Planks arrive in the mid-game, around level 15. Nothing technically blocking, but the crafting chain is a bit long if you're starting from scratch. Here's how to optimize it without wasting time.

Unlocking the blueprint at level 15

Open the Technology tab and scroll down to the level 15 row. The Wood Plank blueprint is there, spend your Technology Points to unlock it. That's it.

A useful reminder: you gain Technology Points with every level up, but some manuals let you get them without leveling up. These points are separate from Ancient Technology Points - those are only used for the purple blueprints in the tech tree.

Note

Refined Wood Planks are an entirely different resource, unlocked at level 43 with far more advanced materials. Don't confuse the two.

The crafting recipe

Once the blueprint is unlocked, the recipe appears on all your workbenches, even the basic Primitive Workbench. To craft a Wood Plank, you need:

  • 10 Wood
  • 5 Fiber
  • 1 Nail

Wood and Fiber are obtained by chopping down trees. Careful: Logging Sites only produce Wood, not Fiber. If you want to automate Fiber harvesting at your base, set up a Crusher and configure it to produce Fiber.

As for Nails, that's an extra step: craft them on a workbench from Ingots, which are themselves obtained by refining ore in a Furnace. This is the most time-consuming part if you're starting with no stock.

Automating production with the Production Line

If you need Wood Planks in bulk - and that's likely, since they go into building quite a few advanced structures like the weapon workbench - the Production Line is your best friend. It's basically a souped-up workbench: faster, and above all able to run without you.

There's one requirement: the Production Line consumes electricity. You'll need to install Generators and assign electric Pals to run them. A bit of upfront investment, but the productivity gain is real over time, trust us!

Tip

Even though the Primitive Workbench technically works, always craft on the most advanced workbench available to go faster.

A bug to know about if the recipe doesn't appear

If you've unlocked the blueprint but the recipe doesn't show up on your workbenches, it's probably a mod conflict. The community has identified the issue:

« I hit tech level 15 and researched the Wood Plank recipe, but it doesn't show up on the workbenches... I eventually found out it was the old 10x ammo and sphere mod causing the problem, once disabled I could craft planks. » - r/Palworld thread, u/community

If you're in this situation: disable your mods one by one and verify file integrity through Steam. The problem usually comes from mods that alter item multipliers.

Do you automate your Wooden Planks or craft them by hand as you go?

Frequently asked questions

At what level do I unlock the Wooden Plank?
At level 15. Open the Technology tab, scroll down to the level 15 row, and spend your Technology Points to unlock the blueprint. That's it.
What's the difference between Wooden Plank and Refined Wooden Plank?
They're two separate resources. The Wooden Plank unlocks at level 15 with basic materials. The Refined Wooden Plank arrives at level 43 with much more advanced materials — don't mix them up.
Where do I find Fiber for crafting?
By chopping down trees directly, you get Wood and Fiber. Careful: Logging Sites only produce Wood. To automate Fiber at your base, build a Crusher and set it to produce Fiber.
The recipe doesn't show up even after unlocking the blueprint, why?
It's probably a mod conflict. The community has identified that certain mods (like the old 10x ammo and sphere) cause issues. Disable your mods one by one and verify file integrity through Steam.
Can I craft at the Primitive Workbench or do I need something better?
The Primitive Workbench technically works, but you should always craft at the most advanced workbench available to go faster. And if you're making a lot of them, a Production Line saves a huge amount of time.

Key takeaways

  • Unlock the blueprint at level 15 in the Technology tab by spending your Technology Points.
  • Each Plank requires 10 Wood, 5 Fiber, and 1 Nail — the bottleneck is making Nails via ore and then a Furnace.
  • Don't confuse Wooden Planks with Refined Wooden Planks (level 43), they're two different resources.
  • An automated Production Line speeds up mass production, but requires electricity and Electric Pals.
