In brief

Palworld 1.0 requires a good Watering Pal to keep your base running at full capacity. Check out our complete tier list, from Amione in the early game to Shaolong in the end-game, with all the locations and synergies to exploit.

To run a base at full capacity in Palworld, a good Watering Pal is essential. Watering a field only takes a moment, but as soon as it comes to mass-producing ingredients or materials, it's better to have a companion capable of working as fast as possible. Here is our selection of the best Watering Pals, from the very start of the game through to the end-game.

Amione, the best early-game Watering Pal

Amione only has Watering level 1, but its real strength lies elsewhere: once placed in your base, it increases the Watering level of all other relevant Pals by 1 thanks to its partner skill Magic Twinning. In other words, every watering Pal in your camp benefits from a single Amione - enough to get a Pal to Watering 3 as soon as a Penking arrives.

You can find it to the west of the starting area, near the Ravine Entrance fast travel point.

Penking, the reliable early-game choice

Speaking of which, get yourself a Penking as soon as possible. An Alpha Penking awaits you in its own dungeon, just north of the Fort Ruins, not far from where you encounter the Alpha Chillet. As mentioned, Penking rises to Watering 3 when an Amione is present in the base. And it doesn't stop there: it also handles Handiwork and Cooling, making it a very handy all-round worker early in the adventure.

Jellroy and Jelliette, the mid-game duo

Taken separately, Jellroy and Jelliette cap out at Watering 2. But brought together in the same base, they boost each other's watering speed by at least 50%: that's the whole point of their partner skills, Jellroy Toss and Jelliette Toss. A smart investment if your crops are struggling to keep up in the mid-game. A nice bonus: Jellroy is also excellent for Korallium magnet fishing.

As for hunting them, you'll find Jellroy on Ghost Island, a small islet northwest of Mount Obsidian. Jelliette, meanwhile, appears on the northern beach of Feybreak Island as well as in the dungeons of Windswept Hills.

Jellroy

Ghangler, the fast mid-game worker

If you're mainly looking for a Pal capable of operating more advanced workstations, get your hands on a Ghangler, also found on Ghost Island - in the same spot as Jellroy. These Pals start out right away with Watering 5, making them more efficient workers than most Pals at this stage of the game.

Shaolong, the king of the end-game

Shaolong is an end-game Pal obtained in the region of the World Tree. It's the only Water Pal in the game to start with Watering 8, and by condensing it enough, it eventually reaches Watering 10. Many players rank it among the top three Watering Pals in the game.

Shaolong has no other particular perk for watering, but such a high base level gives it a head start: starting from Watering 8 means fewer resources to invest before reaching maximum work suitability level.

Shaolong

Jormuntide and Neptilius, the high-end alternatives

Jormuntide starts at Watering 7 and, unlike Shaolong, can be captured directly on the Palpagos Archipelago: simply defeat the level 55 field boss located south of the Scars of War, on Windswept Hills. A 3-star condensed version reaches Watering 10 without spending a single skill book - and even faster with an Amione in the base. The catch: non-Alpha Jormuntide are quite rare, so building up a 3-star version will require patience.

Neptilius works on the same principle: it also starts at Watering 7, reaches Watering 10 at 3-star rank like Shaolong, and remains just as hard to farm in non-Alpha form. These Pals are primarily built for combat and exploration - Neptilius is in fact one of the best aquatic mounts in the game - but they also hold their own at the base and excel at fending off raids.

Frequently asked questions

Which Watering Pal should I catch first in the early game?
Amione first, then Penking. Amione alone only has Watering 1, but they boost all the other watering Pals in your base. Penking climbs to Watering 3 thanks to Amione and also covers Handiwork and Cooling — a real versatile workhorse.
Where can I find Jellroy and Jelliette in the mid-game?
Jellroy appears on Ghost Island, a small islet northwest of Mount Obsidian. Jelliette can be caught on the north beach of Feybreak Island and in the Windswept Hill dungeons. Bringing both together in your base increases their watering speed by 50%.
Why is Shaolong the best Watering Pal in the game?
It's the only Water Pal to start with Watering 8 and reach level 10. Starting from such a high level means far fewer resources to invest before maxing out the job — and many rank it among the top three Pals in all of Palworld.
Is Ghanglion worth going after in the mid-game?
Yes, if you're mainly looking for something for advanced workstations. It starts with Watering 5, making it more efficient than most Pals at the same stage of the game. It can also be found on Ghost Island alongside Jellroy.
Is Jormuntide better than Shaolong for watering?
No, it's an alternative. Jormuntide starts at Watering 7 and reaches 10 at 3-star rank, but it's mainly built for combat and exploration — it's actually one of the best aquatic mounts. Shaolong remains more specialized in pure watering.
