Palworld 1.0 Pal Surgery Table: how to unlock and use it?
In brief
The Pal Surgery Table is the standout mechanic of the Tides of Terraria update, letting you modify your Pals' passive skills and gender. Unlocked at level 36 with 3 Technology Points, it requires 30 Refined Ingots and 20 High Quality Cloth to build, but opens up massive customization possibilities by paying gold to buy or swap passives.
The Tides of Terraria update brought with it many features long awaited by Palworld players, including the famous Pal Surgery Table, allowing trainers to modify their Pals' passive skills, but also to change their gender. Let's take a look at how to properly unlock and use this new addition.

How to unlock the Pal Surgery Table
The Pal Surgery Table is the first step on the road to technological progress in Palworld. To use it, you must first make sure to apply 3 Technology Points in the right skill tree and reach level 36, but unlocking it is only the beginning. The table itself requires a large amount of advanced resources.
To craft the Pal Surgery Table, you'll need to gather 30 Refined Ingots and 20 High Quality Cloth, so it goes without saying that you'll necessarily need to first craft an Improved Furnace (unlocked at level 34) and unlock the High Quality Cloth technology (level 36; costing 2 Technology Points). In terms of raw resources, prepare to scrape the bottom of your pockets: you'll need 60 ores, 60 coals and 200 standard pieces of flax if you're starting from zero.
Tip
An interesting option for obtaining High Quality Cloth is to capture and put to work the skills of Sibelyx, capable of producing this precious good, more efficient than manual crafting if you have these Pals at your base.

Features and use of the Pal Surgery Table
Once built at your base, the Pal Surgery Table will open up the possibility of modifying your companions: the interface lets you modify any Pal in your collection to change its passive skills. First and foremost, the Pal Surgery Table's main function (among others) is to add, swap, or remove your Pals' passives. By selecting one of your Pals from the menu, you'll be able to click on any of its passive slots (occupied or empty) to open a list of available skills. Expect to pay between 10,000 and 50,000 coins to buy the skill of your choice for the selected slot, thus replacing the old passive.
Note
The monetary system, so important in this mechanic, allows access to more powerful skills by paying more for them.
But it's also the option to change a Pal's gender that could also appeal to players getting into breeding, having first purchased a special item offered by certain NPCs in the game. The Pal Surgery Table of course also complements the new fishing mechanics offered by the Tides of Terraria update, as fished Pals often have epic passives or Alpha traits, transferable to other members of your team via the Table.
To make the most of the Pal Surgery Table, don't hesitate to scour the world in search of special implants. These are divided into three categories, with the Artisan, Sturdy Body and Muscle Head implants available for purchase from the Vigilante Bounty Officers found in most NPC settlements. The Runner, Infinite Stamina and Serenity implants, meanwhile, can only be found at the Arena Merchant, south of the Desert Tower, in the eastern part of the map. Obtaining a single implant of each type permanently unlocks that passive in the Pal Surgery Table, which, in the long run, makes this investment well worth it.
This new Palworld feature is pretty handy, isn't it?
