Palworld 1.0 Chromite: how to farm this resource efficiently
In brief
Chromite is the essential end-game resource in Palworld 1.0 for crafting Hexolite, but it's far trickier to find than regular ore since it's entirely buried underground. This guide gives you the best detection techniques, the most profitable spots, and the optimal farming strategy to stockpile hundreds of units without pulling your hair out.
Chromite is one of the most valuable end-game resources in Palworld. It is essential for crafting Hexolite, the alloy used in the game's best weapons, armor, and advanced technology. The catch: unlike classic ore deposits, Chromite is not visible on the surface, which makes it noticeably harder to harvest. Here's how to farm it efficiently.
Where to find Chromite
Chromite is found exclusively on Feybreak Island. It is buried underground and must be detected before it can be mined.
Most deposits appear in caves, dungeons, Alpha boss rooms, and the island's red volcanic zones. Surface nodes do exist, but underground locations are far more profitable: a single cave can contain several. Once a buried deposit is revealed, mine it with a Pickaxe or let a mining Pal handle it.
How to detect buried Chromite
Two methods coexist.
The first involves the Metal Detector, unlocked at technology level 58. Once equipped, it beeps whenever buried metal is nearby, and the pace speeds up as you get closer to the deposit.

The second relies on Smokie, a Dark-type Pal introduced with Feybreak. Its partner skill, Seek and Find, detects and digs up nearby Chromite without needing the detector. Even better, Smokie increases the amount of Chromite obtained per deposit - which is why it's worth bringing along even if you already own a detector. A fully condensed Smokie boosts this yield even further.
How to get Smokie
Smokie can be caught in the wild in the northeastern region of Feybreak Island. You can also fight the Alpha Smokie in the Sealed Realm of the Little Hero - but this fight requires having first defeated several field Alpha bosses such as Blazamut, Warsect Terra, and Kitsun Noct, which makes it something reserved for high-level players.
Once Smokie is captured, unlock and craft the Smokie Saddle at technology level 56. You'll then be able to take advantage of its skill to reveal hidden deposits as soon as you summon it.

The best farming spots
Four caves stand out, each with 4 Chromite deposits:
| Cave | Coordinates |
|---|---|
| Shield Dragon Tunnel | -970, -977 |
| Dark Flame Tunnel | -1052, -1209 |
| Bloodstained Tunnel | -1206, -1388 |
| Crystalized Tunnel | -910, -1318 |
With a fully condensed Smokie, you can harvest up to 600 Chromite per cave.

The optimal farming route
Teleport to Feybreak Island with a ground mount equipped, and keep the Metal Detector active while riding: it keeps working without slowing you down. As soon as it reacts, dismount, summon Smokie, reveal the buried deposit, mine it, then move on.
A good surface route starts around Scorched Hill, where numerous buried deposits dot the red terrain - enough to stockpile a good amount without even entering a dungeon. Alpha Pal caves and dungeons remain just as profitable (often three or four deposits per visit). Once several caves have been cleared out, alternate between spots while waiting for respawns.
What Chromite is used for
Chromite is mainly used to smelt Hexolite at the Giant Furnace. Each unit of Hexolite requires Chromite, Hexoquartz, and Metal Ore. Since a very large number of end-game weapons, armor, and technology recipes consume Hexolite, you'll need several hundred Chromite over the course of the game.
