In brief

Awakening Crystals are a must-have to boost your Pals in the endgame. Crafted at the Ancient Workbench with 50 Radiant Gems and 10 Sacred Water, they offer a major stat bonus — but beware, each crystal only works on a Pal of the same element.

Introduced with 1.0, Awakening Crystals power Palworld's Awakening system, and they're one of the best ways to strengthen your Pals in the late game. Awakening a companion grants it a major stat bonus and a distinctive glowing aura. Here's how to craft these crystals, get them, and awaken your best Pals.

What is Awakening?

Awakening involves using an Awakening Crystal on a Pal to permanently boost its combat stats. The key rule: each crystal is tied to an element, and it can only be used on a Pal of the same type. So a Fire crystal will only awaken a Fire-type Pal, and so on.

There are nine elements in total: Water, Electric, Ground, Grass, Fire, Ice, Dragon, Dark, and Neutral. It's up to you to craft the crystal matching the Pal you want to power up.

How to Craft an Awakening Crystal

Awakening Crystals are crafted at the Ancient Workbench, unlocked at level 67. The recipe is the same for every element:

  • 50 Radiant Gems of the desired element
  • 10 World Tree's Holy Water

This is therefore a late-game item, since it requires already having access to the World Tree and its advanced workbench.

The Nine Radiant Gems

Each crystal requires the Gem matching its element. Note that the game doesn't name them in a fully consistent way:

Element In-Game Name
Water Radiant Water Gem
Electric Radiant Electric Gem
Ground Radiant Ground Gem
Grass Radiant Grass Gem
Fire Radiant Fire Gem
Ice Radiant Ice Gem
Dragon Radiant Dragon Gem
Dark Radiant Dark Gem
Neutral Radiant Neutral Gem

Where to Get the Gems and Holy Water

Both resources are gathered in the same place: the World Tree region. By capturing or defeating the Pals that live there, you'll collect both Radiant Gems and World Tree's Holy Water.

Since you need 50 Gems of the right element per crystal, plan for long farming sessions targeting the Pals of the type you're after. This is the most time-consuming part of the process, so focus your efforts on the elements of your priority combat Pals rather than spreading your farming too thin.

How to Awaken a Pal

Once the crystal is crafted, the process is simple: place the target Pal in your active party, open your inventory, and use the Awakening Crystal on it. The Pal immediately receives its stat bonus and displays its new glowing aura. This is done Pal by Pal, crystal by crystal.

Our Tips

Since awakening is costly - 50 Gems and 10 Holy Water for a single Pal - it's better not to apply it randomly. Save your first crystals for your strongest late-game combat Pals, the ones you plan to keep long-term: they'll get the most value out of the stat bonus.

Also remember to group your farming by element. Since a Gem is specific to one type, targeting Pals of the same element during your trips to the World Tree keeps you from stockpiling Gems you can't use.

Note

Always keep a reserve of World Tree's Holy Water: it's used in a huge number of late-game recipes besides Awakening Crystals, and it would be a shame to run out at the wrong moment.

With a bit of method and plenty of elbow grease, Awakening will turn your best companions into true war machines - an essential investment for tackling Palworld's most demanding content.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use any Awakening Crystal on any Pal?
No. Each crystal is strictly tied to an element and only works on a Pal of the same type. A fire crystal will never awaken an electric Pal, for example.
At what point in the game can I start crafting Awakening Crystals?
At level 67, when you unlock the Ancient Workbench. But you also need access to the World Tree and its resources, which means being in the late stages of progression.
Where can I find Radiant Gems and Sacred Water?
Exclusively at the World Tree. Capture or defeat the region's Pals to get both resources at once.
How long does it take to farm the resources for a single Awakening Crystal?
This is the most time-consuming part of the process. With 50 Gems to gather per crystal, expect several targeted farming sessions. Focus your efforts on the elements of your priority Pals rather than trying to farm everything at once.
Is Sacred Water from the World Tree used for anything other than Crystals?
Yes, it's required by a huge number of endgame recipes. Always keep a reserve so you don't run out at the wrong time.

  • Gems and Sacred Water can only be obtained at the World Tree by capturing or defeating the region's Pals.
