In brief

Capcom has finally put the French official version of the Ascendance website online, revealing for the first time the exact French labels of the new mechanic: the Ignifier, ignition actions, and ignition triggers. Only two weapon sheets are open (Great Sword and Bow) out of the fourteen listed, but they don't yet describe the system in detail.

Capcom opened on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 its weapon-by-weapon reveal campaign for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, and took the opportunity to publish the French version of the expansion's website. This is the first time official French labels for the new mechanic have existed, and they don't match what the French-speaking coverage, ours included, has used until now.

Two posts bracket the operation on the official portal: "Evolved Actions for Each Weapon Type Revealed One by One!", timestamped September 2 at 17:17 JST (10:17 in Paris), then "Latest Trailer and Game Information Updated!" on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 12:05 JST (5:05 in Paris). These conversions are our own, as Capcom only publishes Japan time. Both posts exist only in English and the address monsterhunter.com/fr/ redirects to the English-language root: only the expansion's mini-site is translated, into sixteen languages.

Ignificator, ignition triggers, ignition state

The "The Hunt" page of the French site amounts to two sentences, which we reproduce in full. "Activating the Ignificator temporarily improves certain actions and allows new attacks to be performed." Then: "Increase your chances of bringing down the most fearsome monsters by activating your Ignificator. Perform new, extremely powerful attacks, the ignition triggers, and take advantage of improved actions while in an ignition state."

Three elements can be deduced from this. The Ignificator is a device that gets activated: that's where the novelty lies, not in the moves themselves. The ignition state is explicitly temporary, and it's during this window that "certain actions" become better — Capcom nowhere states which ones. The ignition triggers are a separate category: brand-new attacks, presented as the system's peak of power. The page, however, mentions neither a gauge, nor a resource, nor a cooldown: the studio at no point writes how one makes the Ignificator available.

Comparing this with the English version of the same site gives the correspondence below. No line is a translation of our own doing: all were noted by opening both pages.

The consequence is immediate for anyone writing or searching in French: "Boosted Actions" and "boosted bow" are not official labels. Capcom titles its section "action d'ignition", in lowercase.

Fourteen weapons listed, two sheets actually opened

The site announces the fourteen weapon types in the series. In the page's code, twelve of them carry the disabled attribute: their thumbnail is displayed but does not open. Only the Great Sword and the Bow are clickable as of September 4, 2026, in both French and English. The section's composite illustration also shows only these two weapons.

Second caveat, an even more important one: the two open sheets do not describe the ignition action. Their text is the generic weapon description, copied from the base game's site. The "Bow" sheet for Ascendance and the one for Monster Hunter Wilds both say: "A medium-range weapon that uses a wide variety of arrow-based attacks." We compared the two pages: the text is identical. An "open" sheet therefore teaches nothing new about the mechanic — only the associated video does.

Two points of vocabulary, because they trip up searches. The French site does indeed call the Switch Axe Morpho-hache and the Charge Blade Volto-hache; the game's weapon sheets confirm this meaning, not the reverse. And the list order differs from that of the base game's site, where the Hunting Horn occupies sixth place instead of eighth.

The access requirement: the 7★ quest "Awaking From a Dream"

This is the most actionable piece of information on the page, and it is spelled out in black and white: "The requirements to play Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance are as follows: – Own the game Monster Hunter Wilds – Have completed the 7★ quest: Awaking From a Dream." The English refers to the 7★ assignment "Awaking From a Dream". If you left the campaign hanging, you know what you have left to do before 2027 — and that it isn't optional.

One curiosity: the "Rating" line only appears on the French page. The English-language page stops at the platforms, with no age mention. The PEGI 16 rating is indeed official data, but it is only visible in French.

Celestial Isles, Eastern Lands, Madoï Fortress

The area is described as follows: "The mist that veiled the skies above Wyveria has lifted, revealing a network of floating ruins: the Celestial Isles." The carousel repeats the three environmental states already known to hunters, under their original French labels: Déclin, Anomalie climatique and Abondance. Capcom does not say whether their functioning changes.

Movement gains a concrete new element: "Updrafts blow in various locations across the Celestial Isles. Take advantage of them to glide through the air on your Seikret." This is the only mention of aerial navigation on the site.

On the bestiary side, the "Monsters" page opens with "Elder Dragons make their appearance!" and names three of them. The Gundoraja, an "Elder Dragon that reigns over the skies," summons lightning as it wraps itself in storm clouds, "hence its name meaning 'wrath of the black sky.'" Kushala Daora shields itself with fierce winds and bears hard metallic scales. Lao-Shan Lung is so massive that its mere existence causes as much damage as a natural disaster. A fourth monster appears separately, under "Monsters bring the world to life": Araketa, a large predatory wyvern of the Celestial Isles that propels itself using an organ located on its wings, "which earns it the nickname 'jet-propelled wyvern,'" and that "always obeys the leader of the pack." Three of these four monsters have a detailed page to open; Lao-Shan Lung does not.

The story is placed in time: "A few years after the attack of the massive Elder Dragon, construction of Madoï Fortress is completed, and a network of floating ruins is discovered in the sky." The expansion takes place "several years after the events of Wilds," the fortress having been built by the Guild and the inhabitants of the Forbidden Lands. The homepage adds that "new monsters await you in the Eastern Lands."

The blind spots of the French version

The translation is real but incomplete, and it's worth knowing this before quoting the page. On the monster page, the button that opens the details is still called "View Overview." In the media section, the "Bande-annonce de lancement" [Launch Trailer] link does not lead to a launch trailer: the thumbnail's file name is announcement-trailer and the English text reads "Announcement Trailer." For an expansion expected in 2027, the distinction is not trivial.

The destination of these links is more troubling. The "Bande-annonce de lancement" [Launch Trailer] and the "Message des développeurs" [Developer Message] point to Japanese videos on the CapcomChannel. The three videos in the "Action" section link to the English-language Monster Hunter channel, their thumbnails named boost_en, greatsword_en and bow_en. Only one is localized: the "1er trailer" [1st Trailer], published by the Capcom France channel.

One last pitfall: the character identified as sakigake is named Gargare in French and Bangard in English. Searching for one using the other will turn up nothing.

What to remember

The French sheet brings four verifiable things. A vocabulary: Igniter, ignition action, ignition triggers, ignition state. A hard prerequisite: own the game and have completed the 7★ quest "Awakening from a Dream." A location and its bestiary: Sky Isles, Eastern Lands, Fortress of Madoï, Gundoraja, Kushala Daora, Lao-Shan Lung and Araketa. A product sheet: 2027, PEGI 16, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, cross-platform game.

The rest is missing. Twelve weapons out of fourteen have no sheet, the two that do don't mention ignition, and no page gives a number of quests, a number of monsters, a price or a date more precise than the year. Capcom has announced that it will reveal the actions "one by one": the table above tells you which ones are still to come.

Which weapon type are you most excited to see its ignition action revealed?

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is the Ignifier?
It's a device you activate to temporarily enhance your actions and gain access to new attacks called ignition triggers. Capcom hasn't yet clarified how to recharge it or how long the effect lasts.
Will all weapon types have ignition actions?
Yes, all fourteen weapon types are listed on the official website, but Capcom is revealing them progressively. Only the Great Sword and Bow are currently viewable in detail.
Do you have to finish the base game before Ascendance?
Yes, you must have completed the 7★ quest 'Awakening from a Dream' and own Monster Hunter Wilds to access the expansion.
Are the Celestial Islands the only new locale?
No, Ascendance also introduces the Eastern Lands. The Celestial Islands feature ascending winds that allow you to glide on Seikret's back, making it a unique verticalized environment.
How many new monsters does Ascendance add?
At least four officially confirmed: three ancient dragons (Gundoraja, Kushala Daora, Lao-Shan Lung) and Araketa. Others are likely being held back, with Capcom communicating at a slow pace.

Key takeaways

  • The Ignifier is officially named as such in French, not 'Boost Bracer' or 'boosted bow'
  • Only the Great Sword and Bow have their sheets viewable as of September 4, 2026, with the other twelve remaining locked
  • To access Ascendance, you must complete the 7★ quest 'Awakening from a Dream'
  • The three confirmed ancient dragon monsters are Gundoraja, Kushala Daora and Lao-Shan Lung, joined by Araketa, a reaction wyvern
  • The French translation is partial: some elements remain in English on the official version
