GTA Online: x5 GTA$ on VIP Work from August 21 to 23, 2026 — Rockstar's first weekend bonus, and how to make the most of it
In brief
From August 21 to 23, 2026, GTA Online is running its first-ever weekend bonus: x5 GTA$ and RP on VIP Work, a three-day window only that breaks the usual seven-day cycle. The main trap: launching a VIP Work before Friday will cost you a fortune, since the same mission will pay out five times more in just a few days.
Rockstar Games has never done this before: from Friday, August 21 to Sunday, August 23, 2026, GTA Online's VIP Work will pay out five times more GTA$ and RP. Three days, not one more. The bonus ends Sunday night while the period's other multipliers, meanwhile, run until August 26.
The practical consequence comes down to one sentence: don't launch any VIP Work between now and Friday. A mission that pays you a certain amount this Monday, August 17, will pay you five times as much in four days, with no performance requirement. It's the only bonus of the period worth deliberately holding off on.
The rest of the calendar is busier than it looks: two weekly challenges follow one another, the reset on Thursday, August 20 reshuffles part of the deck, and several x4 multipliers run through it all without changing. Here's the order to play in between today and Wednesday, August 26.
Since the mode launched, a GTA Online bonus has always lasted seven days: this one lasts three
GTA Online's rhythm has never varied: every Thursday, Rockstar releases its weekly update, and everything it contains — multipliers, discounts, the weekly challenge — remains valid until the following Wednesday. This seven-day cycle allows for flexible planning: a player who only logs in on Sunday gets exactly the same bonuses as one who plays on Friday.
The x5 on VIP Work breaks this mechanic for the first time. It doesn't occupy a full week, but a weekend slot carved out within a week. It was announced as early as the August 13 update, alongside the "Brand War" event pitting Sprunk against eCola, which runs until August 26.
The change is more significant than a line in a patch note. Until now, missing a bonus meant not logging in for an entire week; starting August 21, it will be enough to just pick the wrong evening. Nothing indicates, moreover, that Rockstar plans to repeat the format: it's a one-off trial, not a newly announced rule.
The x5 applies to both VIPs and CEOs: 50,000 GTA$ in the bank is enough
VIP Work isn't picked up on the map. It's triggered from the interaction menu, provided you're registered as a VIP or as a CEO, and is played in a public session. The bonus applies to VIP payouts as well as CEO payouts: VIP status, which only requires 50,000 GTA$ in the bank, is enough. Only register as CEO if you already have an office.

Two things to check before Friday: make sure you have the 50,000 GTA$ in the bank required for VIP registration, and find a quiet public session. A failed mission pays out nothing, no matter the multiplier.
What's running in parallel: three x4 multipliers that survive past August 20
This is the detail that shapes the whole plan: the event's x4 bonuses don't end on Wednesday, August 19 along with the current week, but on August 26. They will therefore remain active during the x5 weekend.
| Activity | Multiplier | Until when |
|---|---|---|
| VIP Work | x5 | Friday, August 21 to Sunday, August 23 only |
| Hotring Races | x4 | August 26 |
| Freemode Challenges | x4 | August 26 |
| Freemode Events | x4 | August 26 |
| Odd Jobs | x3 | August 19 (current week) |
| Community Series | x3 | August 26 |
The Odd Jobs in question are the Paper Trail, Fire Fighter, Forklift, QuickiePharm Delivery Helper and Safeguard Shipments. Be careful not to confuse the two x3 bonuses in the table: the one for Odd Jobs is only granted for the current week and therefore ends on Wednesday, August 19, while the one for Community Series runs until August 26, just like the x4 bonuses. Odd Jobs is the only line that disappears at the Thursday, August 20 reset.
To complete before Wednesday, August 19: three Business Battles for GTA$250,000
The weekly challenge currently underway requires you to complete three Business Battles. It expires with the week, on Wednesday, August 19. The reward: GTA$250,000 and the "Impotent Rage" tracksuit.
You have three evenings to complete it: this Monday the 17th, Tuesday the 18th, and Wednesday, August 19. It's the tightest deadline on the calendar and, hour for hour, the most profitable one, since the GTA$250,000 comes in one lump sum. Absolute priority for the start of this week.
Thursday, August 20, the challenge switches to three races — and the x4 Hotring bonus doesn't budge
The Thursday, August 20 update will replace this challenge with a second one: win three races, between August 20 and 26, for an additional GTA$250,000 and the Princess Racing tracksuit.
The combination is obvious: Hotring Races pay x4 until August 26, exactly the period of the challenge. Chaining them together theoretically lets you complete the three wins while pocketing the best multiplier available on a short activity. One honest caveat, though: the challenge description mentions "races" without specifying which ones count, and we won't be able to verify this until the update is live. If you want a safety margin, get your three wins in regular races and save the Hotring races for the payout.
Useful note: we will only publish the details of this update after it goes live. Until Thursday, August 20 has passed, neither the discounts nor the vehicles for the following week can be documented.
The earnings plan, from Monday, August 17 to Wednesday, August 26
- Monday, August 17 to Wednesday, August 19: the three Business Battles from the current challenge, then the Odd Jobs, whose x3 bonus ends on the 19th. No VIP Work.
- Thursday, August 20: update day. Collect the reward from the first challenge, check out the second one, and hold off on VIP Work for now.
- Friday, August 21 to Sunday, August 23: register as VIP or CEO, then chain VIP Work at x5. The most profitable window of the ten days, and it won't come back around.
- Monday, August 24 to Wednesday, August 26: the three race wins for the second challenge, Hotring Races at x4 for the payout, Freemode Challenges and Events, and Community Series to fill in the gaps.
If you can only play for a few hours, the priority is clear: the three brand wars before August 19, then the x5 weekend, and finally the three races before the 26th.
Reminder: "Brand Wars" Twitch Drops remain open until August 26
The Twitch Drops tied to the event, worth up to GTA$2,000,000, run from August 13 to 26. They don't require playing, so they don't compete with the schedule above: it's passive earnings, as long as you've linked your account. We covered them in detail in our August 13 article.
Key dates to remember
- Wednesday, August 19: end of the three brand wars challenge and the x3 on Odd Jobs.
- Thursday, August 20: weekly update and start of the three races challenge.
- Friday, August 21 to Sunday, August 23: x5 GTA$ and RP on VIP Work, and nothing else.
- Wednesday, August 26: end of the x4 multipliers, the x3 on Community Series, the second challenge, the Twitch Drops, and the "Brand Wars" event.
A three-day bonus changes how you plan your week in a game that never used to require being online on a specific evening. If Rockstar deems the experiment a success, the Thursday weekly update will no longer be the only date to keep in mind in GTA Online.
