Apex Legends Season 30: which Legend upgrades to choose after the Hunt rework
In brief
Season 30 Breakout rewrites the upgrade trees of six Legends to adapt to the scarcity of gold loot and new locked hop-ups. Loba, Rampart, Alter, Seer, and Valkyrie see their mechanics reworked, while Bloodhound benefits from tactical adjustments. These changes completely redistribute in-match trade-offs, especially in early ranked season.
Apex Legends moved into Season 30 "Manhunt" on August 4, 2026, and the commentary has focused on Bloodhound's rework, on World's Edge shifting back to nighttime lighting, and on deliberately scarcer loot. A quieter piece of work, though, weighs just as heavily on your matches: Respawn has rewritten several Legend upgrade trees, the two perks you choose mid-match whenever your EVO shield levels up.
Six Legends are affected: Bloodhound, Loba, Rampart, Valkyrie, Axle, and Seer. In two cases, the outright removal of gold loot forced a rewrite of an upgrade that had become nonsensical. In two others, the order of the tiers has changed, which completely shifts the in-match trade-offs. And since the season's first Ranked split runs from August 11 to 16, you might as well build these reflexes right away.
Reminder: how Legend upgrades work
The principle hasn't changed since it was introduced. In Battle Royale, every Legend has four upgrades (the official patch notes also call them "upgrades"): two at level 2, two at level 3. You only pick one per tier, at the moment your EVO shield reaches blue and then purple. Everything resets at the next match: nothing is unlocked permanently, and nothing carries over from one round to the next.
The consequence is mechanical: your EVO leveling speed determines when you gain access to your perks. That's precisely what Season 30 shakes up, by tightening free loot sources and by changing locked hop-ups.
Reaching purple faster in Season 30
Three changes in Manhunt directly affect this pacing:
- Every gold weapon without an existing hop-up now gets the Accelerator. This attachment grants 30% extra EVO on damage dealt with the weapon, plus 15% ultimate charge on a knockdown, with a 3-second assist window. In exchange, it no longer grants ultimate charge for plain damage. Picking up a gold weapon is therefore no longer just an attachment convenience: it's an accelerator toward level 3.
- The gold weapon rotation has been removed. Gold weapons are no longer limited to a restricted list: any weapon can now spawn as gold, which makes this acceleration much less dependent on seasonal rotation luck.
- Gun racks are disabled at the start of the match and only light up at the same time as EVO Harvesters, including their minimap icons. Your early fights are therefore played out with whatever you find on the ground, and your first upgrade tier arrives later than in Season 29 if you land in a poor loot zone.

Loba and Rampart: two upgrades rewritten by the end of gold loot
Manhunt has purged much of the gold loot: removal of mythic bins and gold bins, removal of gold attachments from the loot pool, removal of gold backpacks, and a cap on the upgrade panel at the purple level. Two upgrades used to promise gold: they had to be rewritten.
Loba — the level 3 upgrade Brand New Bag now grants purple bags instead of gold bags, since the latter no longer spawn. The compensation lies elsewhere in her kit: her tactical equips in 0.4 seconds instead of 0.6, the projectile range increases by around 15%, and its travel time drops by around 30%. Her ultimate, finally, returns to a 120-second cooldown instead of 150. In other words, Loba keeps her role as the squad's supplier, but her value shifts toward the frequency of her black markets rather than the quality of the bag she hands out.
Rampart — the level 2 upgrade Combat Stock no longer grants access to red weapons, simply because they're being removed from the game. It now allows, in addition to its other effects, reloading holstered weapons. The rest of the Legend has been significantly buffed: her passive causes locked hop-ups to be gained 50% faster, her wall's health goes from 400/600/800 to 600/700/800 at lower EVO tiers, the amped wall gains 25 health points and deploys 0.5 seconds sooner. Above all, the base movement speed while firing with Sheila climbs from 70 to 104, matching the old value obtained with the Power Up upgrade; the latter still grants the same increase, taking you up to 139.
Axle: the perk order changes, and so does the trade-off
This is the most concrete overhaul for Axle players. The Automaton upgrade disappears, replaced by Ride or Die, and the perk order is reshuffled:
- Level 2: Slide Shot versus Ride or Die;
- Level 3: Breach Drop versus Super Slide.
This change only makes sense alongside the accompanying nerf: her tactical's maximum slide boost time drops from 5 seconds to 3 seconds. Ride or Die brings it back up to 5 seconds. So you get a very clear level 2 choice: either you regain the movement range from before the Breakout update, or you take Slide Shot and accept shorter rotations.
Second point to urgently take on board: her ultimate now affects everyone, following the model of Mad Maggie's, Bangalore's, and Gibraltar's ultimates. Axle herself takes the damage, the stun, and the displacement; allies are stunned and displaced, but take no damage. An ultimate thrown without a voice callout now costs your own squad an engagement.
Seer: the two strong upgrades can no longer be stacked
Respawn was explicit about the problem: early in the split, the upgrade granting two tactical charges and the one reducing the tactical's cooldown within the ultimate's zone reached around 90% and 80% pick rates respectively. Combined, they gave two tactical charges with a very short cooldown.
The July 2nd patch moved both to level 3: so you can now only take one. In the same move, the modifier on the Headstart upgrade was reduced to 2.5, bringing the tactical's cooldown within the ultimate's zone to 8 seconds instead of 5, while Focus of Attention (shield regeneration on a tactical hit) has been moved down to level 2. The Breakout update adds a reduction to the intensity of the turn-slowing effect applied by his tactical — a real quality-of-life improvement for targets, who no longer feel locked in place.
In practice, Seer's level 2 becomes a survival choice rather than a spam choice: Focus of Attention rewards the accuracy of your tacticals. Level 3 forces you to choose between volume of information and availability.
Valkyrie: firepower trimmed down, upgrades too
Valkyrie had been sitting at the top of the pick rate charts for several seasons. Respawn targeted two things: her firepower and how hard her ultimate was to counter.
- Tactical: base damage reduced from 25 to 15, with each additional rocket still dealing 3 damage. The missiles' approach angle to the target has also been adjusted, which cancels out a behavior introduced in Season 27 where missiles could fly over a wall or building to dive straight down on players.
- Ultimate: base height reduced by 15%, which cancels out the Afterburners upgrade that was made baseline in the 27.0 update.
- Tier 2 upgrade Eye in the Sky: the scan distance through walls drops to 100 meters. With a clear line of sight, the full 250-meter range is retained.
- Tier 3 upgrade Supersonic: the takeoff time reduction goes from 50% to 40%.
Eye in the Sky is still useful, but it now needs to be used from an elevated position with open angles rather than from inside a building.
Bloodhound: an entirely new tree
Bloodhound's rework rewrites all four of his slots. Taste for Blood is gone, and Raven's Swarm has been improved and folded into the base kit: white ravens now fly up to 400 meters, up from 190 meters before, and can be triggered from a distance with just a focused look.
At tier 2, Deadeye's Tenacity makes it so using the ultimate refreshes the tactical ability, and using the tactical while cloaked hides the visual effects from enemies; Bird's Eye View splits the white ravens to send them toward the two nearest enemies belonging to different squads. At tier 3, Ultimate Predator makes it so shooting temporarily interrupts your cloak instead of dispelling it entirely — the upgrade that turns the Stormpoint Shroud into an engagement tool rather than just a retreat option.

The decision table
| Legend | What's changing | The habit to adopt |
|---|---|---|
| Bloodhound | Entirely new tree, Raven's Swarm baseline | Ultimate Predator as soon as you're playing the fight opener |
| Loba | Brand new bag grants purple loot, ultimate at 120s | Run more black markets rather than aim for the rare item |
| Rampart | Amped Cover without red weapons, Sheila at 104 | Amped Cover for reloading holstered weapons |
| Valkyrie | Eye in the Sky at 100m through walls | Scan from a high, open position |
| Axle | Automaton replaced by Ride or Die, tiers reordered | Ride or Die if your role is angle-holding |
| Seer | Starting base and the 2 charges at tier 3 | Focus of Power at tier 2, then cut |
What to remember before the first Ranked match
The overall logic of Hunt is coherent: the game gives you less free power on the ground, so Legend upgrades regain relative weight. Two reflexes to build before Ranked 1, from August 11 to 16: first, pick up gold weapons as soon as you come across one, since they carry the Accelerant and speed up your climb to level 3; then, anticipate the delay of the first tier, as weapon racks now only light up with EVO Harvesters.
The rest is a matter of role. If you're the one opening fights, systematically prioritize upgrades that shorten the delay between two engagements — Ultimate Accelerant, Fight or Flight, Battle Rhythm. And remember that everything resets with each match: a bad level 2 choice only costs you one round, which makes experimenting far less risky than switching Legends mid-ranked series.
