In brief

Unknown Worlds has unveiled the roadmap for Subnautica 2 in Early Access, with an ambitious program including the addition of a sprint mechanic, major improvements to the co-op system, and the arrival of brand-new biomes. The first updates will focus on accessibility fixes, an overhaul of the biomod and Blight infestation systems, as well as base-building optimization.

Unknown Worlds has revealed an initial roadmap for the Early Access of Subnautica 2, laying the groundwork for a post-launch future that promises to be quite eventful. The studio, already behind the first installment, intends to enrich the game through a series of updates combining targeted fixes, improvements to core systems, and the addition of major content.

The first step of the flight plan will aim to deliver a patch focused on accessibility improvements. This will notably include an overhaul of the biomods system, to better highlight the value of active and passive bonuses tied to each creature species' DNA, a reworking of the Blight infestation system to make its onset clearer and more interesting to manage, the reconstruction of spaceship wrecks, smoother docking processes and base vehicle crafting, but also a redesign of the PDA interface with notes and better information hierarchy, more prominent audio logs, and above all, the arrival of the sprint mechanic, significantly boosting the dynamics of on-foot exploration.

The second pivotal update will focus on co-op: a clearer HUD signal to track your teammate, a reworked base-building management system, pinning of building recipes, the integration of voice chat, emotes, the ability to trade items or additional cosmetics, and the ability to revive a downed teammate.

Further down the roadmap, the studio teases upcoming expansions, which should focus on entirely new regions and biomes, the introduction of new creatures and gameplay ideas, and even the addition of new resources, tools and brand-new submarines, all while continuing to deliver fixes, balancing and optimizations, always in coordination with community feedback.
