Monster Hunter Wilds: will the Prologue Demo change the game?

The Prologue Demo for Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PS5, Xbox Series and PC via Steam. The most concrete change for the average player: this demo's save transfers directly to the full game. No more throwaway character that you recreate at launch, your customised hunter and your prologue progress carry over.

On the content side, the demo covers the entire prologue up to the start of chapter 1-3 "Toward the Forest", in offline mode. It gives access to the full character creation and, above all, to all 14 weapon types without restriction. This is a real selling point for the competitive player or the franchise regular who wants to test a build before buying, rather than a truncated demo with two imposed weapons as we too often see.

What really matters

The real stake here is accessibility, as Capcom prepares the ground for the Ascendance expansion. Allowing a save transfer reduces friction for hesitant players, those who missed the launch in February 2025 or who have just heard about the game (is that even possible?!). It's also a discreet way of letting them try out the end-game of the weapon system without having to pay before being convinced.

No major bugs reported so far on this demo, which makes sense given that it reuses content that has already been stable for a year and a half. The initial reception remains positive: the save transfer is seen as a rare gesture for a demo, as most publishers prefer to start from scratch when the full game launches.
