In brief

Patch 2's Hotfix 5 lands on Steam with an arsenal of targeted fixes: Charon's Wells finally reappearing in Dream Dives, boon synergies working again, and above all that Wailing Soul projectile that exploded randomly during Typhon. Consoles will have to wait a bit, but this is already solid stuff.

Patch 2 Hotfix 5 arrived on Steam without warning. No rebalancing, no added content - just bug squashing. But some of these fixes really deserve a closer look.

What actually changes

The most anticipated fix concerns Charon's Wells missing after a trip to Ephyra during Dream Sequences. A bug that pulled the rug out from under quite a few runs, depriving players of a critical shopping point at the worst possible time. Fixed.

On the combat side, two boon interactions are back on track: Weed Whacker (Demeter) x Split Firebrand (Daedalus) and Solar Ignition (Apollo) x Phase Shift (Selene) with Cleansing. Players building around these combos were seeing their synergies malfunction - that should now be sorted out.

The Wail of the Dead (Hades) projectile randomly exploding during the Typhon Without Equal boss fight is now gone. A particularly frustrating bug in a fight where readability matters. Same goes for King's Ransom / Queen's Ransom (Zeus x Hera), which would sometimes fail to remove Duo Boons - a core late-game mechanic that was behaving erratically.

Also worth noting: the Engraved Pin (Moros) could kill you during a Boon selection screen. Less roguelite, more theater of the absurd.

For console players

PS5, Xbox Series, and Switch (1 & 2) haven't received these fixes yet. Supergiant confirmed on X that the rollout is underway. It'll take a bit of patience, but it shouldn't be long.

No notable negative reaction from the community over this hotfix - hard to criticize a patch that just fixes what was broken.

Frequently asked questions

Why does this Hotfix 5 matter when it's just fixes?
Because it repairs some truly aggravating bugs: synergies that didn't work, boss fights where readability was compromised, and above all erratic late-game mechanics like Duo Favors that refused to trigger. In a roguelike, a bug can cost you an entire run.
Is Hotfix 5 available on my platform?
Not yet. It's only out on Steam for PC. PS5, Xbox Series, and Switch are still waiting their turn - Supergiant has confirmed the rollout is underway, you just need to be a little patient.
Which bug was the most critical to fix?
Hard to pick just one, but the missing Charon's Wells in Dream Dives was truly problematic - denying players a crucial purchase point at the worst moment could ruin a run. The Inscribed Pin killing you during a Favor selection was pure theater of the absurd.

Key takeaways

  • Charon's Wells that disappeared after Ephyra are finally back, saving entire runs
  • Two major boon combos (Weedkiller × Split Bolt and Solar Backfire × Phase Shift) now work correctly
  • The Inscribed Pin can no longer kill you during a Favor selection, bye-bye to that frustrating absurdity
  • Console versions (PS5, Xbox Series, Switch) are coming soon, rollout is underway according to Supergiant
