007 First Light surpasses 4 million copies sold
In brief
007 First Light has crossed the 4 million copies sold mark in just three months. IO Interactive, which developed and published the game entirely independently, cements its status as a major studio with this new James Bond license.
007 First Light has passed the milestone of 4 million copies sold. IO Interactive released the figure on August 20, 2026, three months after the game's launch, and it's the studio itself that's cashing in.
The statement, issued from Copenhagen and co-signed with Amazon MGM Studios, does indeed speak of units sold rather than players: "4 million copies sold since launch," the game's official account states. The distinction carries weight, at a time when announcements are readily counted in "players" inflated by subscriptions and free giveaways. Here, these are purchases.
A brand-new franchise, published by the studio itself
The context gives the figure its true value. In its own statement, IO Interactive describes itself as an "independent video game developer and publisher": the Danish studio developed 007 First Light and published it, without the safety net of a third-party publisher. An entirely new franchise, sold at full price, built around a brand-new playable James Bond: the bet was far from won in advance. The game launched on May 27, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Switch 2 and the rest of the program
IO Interactive presents 007 First Light as one of the fastest-selling titles of 2026, an in-house claim that no independent ranking has confirmed so far. The statement also confirms the Nintendo Switch 2 version "later in 2026," without a precise date, and refers back to the first-year roadmap already detailed in June 2026. The studio finally reminds everyone that it is developing a new franchise under the code name Project Fantasy.
