The thermal plant in a nutshell

The thermal plant is a piece of equipment that generates energy from ambient heat. In Subnautica 2, it's particularly well suited to hot zones and therefore allows you to obtain substantial power for your base.

The thermal plant offers an output of 16 energy per second, depending on the ambient temperature. Unlike other energy sources, it doesn't require a constant supply of renewable resources.

Location of the thermal plant blueprints and fragment scanning

You first need to locate and scan two blueprints to unlock the thermal plant. They can be found in a dangerous area, on the border between the Shallows and the Zezuran Desert. Head east-southeast from your survival pod, keeping in mind that the area is close to the Tadpole enclosures.

Tip

Be careful, the Zezuran Desert is subject to extreme temperatures. It's advisable to equip yourself with Heat Adaptation to avoid losing health points.

Once you arrive, you'll spot the two thermal plant fragments located at the edge of a cliff. It's crucial to scan them quickly, while staying alert to predators in the area.

Building your thermal plant

Place your plant as close as possible to these heat sources to maximize energy production. Consider building several plants near the same vent to achieve a higher total output. Once your thermal plant is built, build a Power Transmitter to connect it to your power grid.
