Subnautica 2 Bioreactor: How to Find Its Blueprint
In brief
The bioreactor is an essential device in Subnautica 2 that produces energy from organic matter, far more efficiently than solar panels. This guide shows you how to locate the three blueprints you need, build the bioreactor, and fuel it to optimize your base.
The bioreactor is, in Subnautica 2, a central and essential device that produces energy from organic matter, making it a more efficient and sustainable option than solar panels, for example. This article will explain how to locate the bioreactor blueprints, build it, and install it in your base.
Locating the bioreactor blueprints
To build a bioreactor, you must first find and scan three blueprints. Here's where to find them:
1. Chap's Black Box cave. 220 meters south of your survival pod is this cave, which holds the first fragment. Upon arrival, above the water, you'll see natural stone pillars. Entering the cave, you'll discover a secret space filled with objects to scan, among which is the bioreactor.

2. The metal container. The 2nd fragment is located 390 meters east of the pod, more precisely in a metal ruins area. You'll find it in a large metal container, next to a coral dome.

3. The old base. The last fragment is 380 meters north of the pod, in the old base. You can access it via the northwest passage or by passing underneath the base. The bioreactor is located in the west wing of the old building.

Building the bioreactor
To build the bioreactor, you'll need the following materials:
- Titanium ingots (2)
- Copper ingots (2)
To craft these ingots, you must use a fabricator with 3 units of base material, and a crafting time of 30 seconds. Once the ingots are produced, use your construction tool to place the bioreactor in your base.
Powering the bioreactor
To run it, you need to find organic matter to feed into the bioreactor. The available options are:
- Off: the bioreactor doesn't run.
- Normal: 10 energy points produced, slow fuel consumption.
- Overload: 20 energy points produced but fuel is consumed twice as fast.
For increased efficiency, meaning a longer burn time, don't hesitate to use biofuel blocks, which you can craft from:
- Fibrous pulp (5)
- Pent (3)
- Crab dung (2)
Note
These blocks burn more slowly than regular organic matter, allowing you to keep an eye on almost nothing but your bioreactor.

Key takeaways
- Collect three bioreactor blueprints: one at the black box cave (220 m south), one in the metal ruins (390 m east), and one at the old base (380 m north).
- Craft the bioreactor with 2 titanium ingots and 2 copper ingots using a fabricator.
- Normal mode produces 10 energy points with slow consumption, while overcharge produces 20 points but burns through fuel twice as fast.
- Use biofuel blocks for maximum efficiency and a significantly extended burn time.
