Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls - mastering Counters and Crossovers
In brief
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls introduces three essential mechanics in 4v4: the Assemble Counter to stop an attack and retaliate, the Crossover to punish after a block, and the Crossover Reflect to counter the opponent's Crossover. Mastering the tight timing and managing the Assembly gauge becomes key to dominating without getting crushed.
In 4v4, your team shares a single health bar in Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. Needless to say, blocking, countering, and bringing in your teammates at the right time is the bare minimum if you don't want to get humiliated. Three mechanics to master here: the Assemble Counter, the Crossover, and the Crossover Reflect. Nothing insurmountable, but the timing is tight and mistakes cost you dearly.
The Assemble Counter, to stop an attack and strike back
The Assemble Counter is used to cut off an opponent's attack and bring in one of your teammates to punish right after. Your character leaps backward, leaving orange afterimages behind them.
The input to remember:
- ⭠ + Light Attack + Assemble, all three at the same time.
The animation lasts 60 frames, exactly one second. But only the first 20-frame window counts: that's when the counter actually activates if you get hit. Beyond that window, you take the attack normally, with no protection.

The real trap is the whiff. If you trigger the Assemble Counter in the air with nothing to hit, you're completely exposed for the entire duration of the animation. In other words, punishable at will. It costs one charge of the Assembly gauge (the green bar under your health), so there's no question of spamming it on every exchange. Save it for creating space or getting out of a corner when things look bad.
The Crossover, to punish right after a block
The Crossover triggers right after blocking an opponent's attack. One of your teammates then jumps into the fight to hit the enemy, no matter where they are on screen.
Input: Light Attack + Assemble, immediately after a successful block.
It works on the ground as well as in the air, as long as the timing right after the block is respected. The cost is the same as the Assemble Counter: one gauge charge. And above all, you need at least one full charge to access it. Zero charge, zero Crossover.

This detail is what opens up a real strategic window: a player who burns through their gauge without thinking ends up unable to pull off a Crossover until they've recharged at least a third of their bar. Watch for these moments to rush in without risking a comeback.
The Crossover Reflect, the counter to the counter
What makes this interesting is that the Crossover itself can be countered. That's the Crossover Reflect, triggered while your opponent is launching their own Crossover on you.
Input: Light Attack + Assemble, the moment the opponent's Crossover lands.
An ally then appears to block the incoming attack. Simple, effective, but there's an upgraded version: the Perfect Crossover Reflect.

Timing changes everything here. If you wait until the last possible moment before impact to trigger the Reflect, your teammate doesn't just block anymore: they fire back with their own attack. The opponent then gets knocked down, afflicted with the Disassembled status. In concrete terms, they lose all access to Assemble-related moves or counters as long as the debuff is active. It's brutal, and it can literally turn a round around.
Like the other two mechanics, the Crossover Reflect consumes one Assembly gauge charge and remains unavailable without at least one full charge in reserve. Manage your gauge carefully: it's what decides whether you can fight back or whether you have to take the hit.

Key takeaways
- The Assemble Counter only activates during the first 20 frames out of 60: after that window, you take the attack with no protection.
- The Crossover only works if you have at least one full charge of the Assembly gauge, which creates a real tactical window to exploit an opponent who's run dry.
- The Perfect Crossover Reflect, triggered at the last possible instant, paralyzes the enemy with the Disassembled status and locks them out of all their Assembly moves.
- Whiffing the Assemble Counter leaves you completely vulnerable for the entire animation: it's punishable at will.
- Each mechanic consumes a gauge charge, so resource management decides whether you can respond or have to take the hit.
