In brief

Humankind, Amplitude Studios' 4X title, drops to €4.99 on Steam until September 8 (a -90% discount). The announcement of the sequel planned for 2027 explains this massive markdown. For less than five euros, you get access to the base game in French, even if its notorious late-game flaws remain.

Amplitude Studios is slashing the price of its historical 4X: Humankind drops to €4.99 on Steam instead of €49.99, a -90% cut. The French store page reads "DEAL OF THE DAY! Offer ends September 8". The timing is no coincidence: the sequel was announced the day before, slated for 2027 on PC.

The price applies to the Standard Edition, the base edition: none of the fifteen DLCs are included. They're discounted separately, mostly at -75%, and the Definitive Edition drops to €17.98 instead of €98.95. Windows and Mac, interface and subtitles in French; the voices, however, remain in English.

The real question remains. Humankind still divides opinion: its Steam ratings are "mixed" across all languages, 68% positive reviews out of nearly 22,000, while French players are more forgiving (76% out of 929). The system of sixty cultures chained together from one era to the next remains a very good idea. The endgame, though, bogs down: the AI loses its grip and the final turns play out on autopilot. At €4.99, that flaw costs the price of a sandwich. It's worth it.

Frequently asked questions

Is Humankind available in French?
Yes, the interface and subtitles are entirely in French on Windows and Mac. The voices remain in English, but that's a minor detail at this price.
Does this discount include all the DLCs?
No, the €4.99 Standard Edition is the base game alone. The DLCs are sold separately with a -75% discount, and the Definitive Edition (game + content) comes to €17.98.
Why this huge price drop now?
Amplitude announced the sequel to Humankind for 2027. This markdown aims to clear stock and build excitement for the first installment before the successor arrives.
Is Humankind worth it at this price?
Steam reviews are mixed (68% positive overall), but the concept of chaining through sixty cultures is solid. The late game really does bog down, but at €4.99, it's a steal for a genuine 4X experience.
