In brief

Snezhnaya finally arrives in Genshin Impact on August 12 with the trailer "The Merciless Eternal Winter." On the menu: trains crossing frozen expanses, the Stellar Swirl mechanic blending Anemo and Cryo, two new characters including Odette, and a radical shift with a TPS mode wielding three brand-new guns.

The new "The Merciless Eternal Winter" trailer sets the stage for Snezhnaya, the seventh nation of Teyvat, which has been eagerly awaited by the community for years. Gone are the datamining theories: we see trains crossing frozen expanses, Snezhnograd with its martial architecture, and the first shots of the new Stellar Swirl mechanic.

The video runs through a series of combat scenes mixing Anemo and Cryo to showcase this brand-new reaction, with a Stellar Swirl vortex that grows bigger as triggers pile up. We also catch a fleeting glimpse of Odette in an urban ballet setting, fitting with her lore as a dancer-assassin, as well as Alyosha accompanied by his dog Tugarin in the middle of a snowy hunt. The clip also lingers on the Goggles, the item that unlocks the TPS mode with its three brand-new firearms - a fairly radical gameplay shift for the franchise.

Compared to the previous teasers doled out sparingly since Snezhnaya's announcement, this trailer is the first real coherent showcase of the area: until now, we only had scattered clues slipped into the Archon quests of earlier versions. The exploration teaser released alongside it confirms the scale of the train system, designed as the backbone for traveling across the open world.
