  • Dremuchij (North Area, South Area and Swamp Area)
  • Chyornyj Prud
  • Bolshaya Past (South Area)
  • Graniny Gorki (South Area)
  • Svyatogornyj (South Area and West Area)
  • Sokrovenno (North Area, South Area and West Area)

The specificity of these locations is that they are the only areas in which it will be possible for you to encounter this creature.

The first three areas, Dremuchij, Chyornyj Prud and Bolshaya Past South, are accessible before fighting The Pain. Graniny Gorki and Svyatogornyj come earlier relative to the fight against The Fear, while Sokrovenno is the place where you will face The End.

How to easily capture the Tsuchinoko

Capturing the Tsuchinoko requires a particular method, as each specimen cannot be detected with the naked eye, even with thermal goggles or other sensors.

Here is the protocol to follow:

  1. Acquire rodent traps: Two traps are located at Bolshaya Past Base, the area that follows Bolshaya Past South. The first is in the wooden cabin at the center of the area, the second is under the bed where the Kerotan frog rests, in the central building.
  2. Place the traps: Once you've acquired the traps, head to Bolshaya Past South and set the traps in a corner just a few steps from the area's entrance.
  3. Eliminate the animals: To maximize your chances of catching a Tsuchinoko, it's advisable to eliminate the other animals in the area so they don't get caught in your traps instead.
  4. Be patient: Travel back and forth between Bolshaya Past South and Bolshaya Past Base over the hours until a trap catches something. It may take several attempts, but it will eventually happen.

You can apply this strategy on any terrain where the Tsuchinoko is likely to appear. The key to this quest is time.

At one point in the game, it's crucial to know that Snake temporarily loses all of his equipment, including the Tsuchinoko if you had already caught it. Don't panic, you'll be able to recover it later in the game at Tikhogornyj after finding EVA again. After spending time with EVA near the waterfall and finding your equipment, head back out and scan the terrain with the thermal goggles to spot the Tsuchinoko crawling through the surrounding wilderness.
