In brief

The Xenomorph arrives in 2v8 with four exclusive mode rules: its portable flamethrower turret is destroyed on the first shot, it recharges 25% faster outside tunnels, its tail attack applies Mangled for 70 seconds, and it gains 5% haste on exit. Behaviour has not published an end date for this iteration, not even a French news update.

The 10.1.2 "Bugfix Patch" for Dead by Daylight landed on Steam on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 2:30 PM UTC, that is 4:30 PM in Paris — this is our conversion, the announcement shows no time zone. Under the subheading "Game Mode: 2v8," Behaviour Interactive lines up two words: "NEW KILLER." The Xenomorph joins the two-killer-versus-eight-survivors mode, with four rules specific to it.

That same day, the game's French website dated its "Alien Collection" to September 8, published at 6:27 PM UTC: "Ruthless. Intimidating. The ultimate protector of the hive. The Xenomorph king makes its entrance into the Alien collection." These two publications are, to our knowledge, everything the publisher has put online on the subject — we come back to that below. This guide therefore draws on the English patch notes from September 8 and the official French killer pages.

The four lines that only apply in 2v8

The notes list these four points under the heading "The Xenomorph - Innate Skills," that is, the mode's innate perks. Verbatim, followed by what it changes in-game:

Text from the September 8 notesEffect in a trial
"When a turret takes The Xenomorph out of Crawler Mode it is automatically destroyed"The turret that ejects it from Crawler Mode is destroyed in the process: one stop, one turret.
"The cooldown of Crawler Mode is 25% faster while outside of tunnels"Cooldown 25% faster while outside the tunnel network.
"Survivors hit by a Tail Strike are Mangled for 70 seconds"A Tail Strike that lands applies Mangled for 70 seconds.
"After exiting a tunnel, gain 5% Haste for 3 seconds"5% Haste for 3 seconds each time it exits a tunnel.

Two clarifications. The 25% gain applies outside tunnels: a Xenomorph that stays on the surface recovers its four-legged state faster than one that shuttles back and forth. On terminology, we reviewed the French sheets of twenty chapter packs published by Behaviour on Steam as well as the official website's character pages: none of them name Mangled in French. We therefore leave it in English rather than invent a label. Haste, by contrast, is indeed an official term, used in the French sheets for the Chorus of Sin and Jason chapters.

The portable Flame Turret only saves you once

This is what makes this killer a special case: it is the only one in the mode whose counter relies on a pickable item. The French site describes it as follows, in the "Special Item – Portable Flame Turret" section:

"When playing against the Xenomorph, Survivors have the ability to interact with turrets. Turrets are located at control stations […]. They can use them to alert to your proximity and place them wherever they want. If you approach one, it will shoot you and temporarily disable your power. Attack a turret to destroy it."

Read that last sentence: the only destruction described on this page is manual. Nowhere does the site state that a turret burns out while ejecting the Xenomorph. That is exactly what the September 8 notes add, and only for 2v8.

The consequence is clear-cut: the item costs a detour to a control station and only produces a single stop before going up in smoke. A turret placed at random in an open area is a wasted turret — place it where a tunnel exit is likely, or near a generator you want to hold.

The same patch fixes two sound bugs that weigh on this trade-off: "Fixed an issue where The Xenomorph is unable to hear the turret's beeping warning sound upon approaching it in both Custom and 2v8 Trials" — the killer now hears the turrets' warning beep again — and "Fixed an issue where The Xenomorph's Tail Strike was too loud."

Poursuite cachée, Quadruped Mode, Tail Strike — and the wording that hesitates

Behaviour publishes the power in French on two platforms, and the two don't quite say the same thing. The official site names it Poursuite cachée: "The Xenomorph can access an underground network of tunnels, allowing it to quickly traverse the map and detect the movements of nearby survivors. […] If a survivor is near a control station when the Xenomorph appears, its presence is revealed thanks to Killer Instinct." The four-legged state is described there without being named: "significantly reducing its Terror Radius."

The French Steam page for the Alien chapter pack, on the other hand, gives it a name: "Special ability: Mode Quadrupède." This is the French wording for Crawler Mode, a term the English patch notes use twice in the 2v8 block without ever translating it. But the same page writes "postes de contrôle" where the site writes "stations de contrôle": two texts from the publisher, two labels for the same set piece. We use the wording from the character page, while noting the other is just as official.

A discrepancy of the same order concerns the name: the site writes "Le Xénomorphe" throughout, while the September 8 Alien Collection says "the king Xenomorph," without an accent. As for Ultimate Weapon, Rapid Brutality, and Alien Instinct, the three entries the French page attaches to the character, the September 8 notes don't say a word about them for 2v8.

Nostromo Wreckage, Ghost Face, and the Executioner in the same patch

The mode gets back a map: "Nostromo Wreckage is now available in 2v8." The French wording has long been established, with the chapter pack page announcing that "the Nostromo Wreckage map is accessible to all players." The patch also fixes a collision issue there that was hindering movement. Two other killers from the mode were tweaked the same day:

KillerValueBeforeAfter
Ghost FaceNight Shroud charge speed15%20%
Ghost FaceStalk charge speed10%15%
the Executioner – Pyramid HeadPunishment Of The Damned width+ 2 meters

Ghost Face's two values each gain 5 points, that is a third and half of the starting value: this relative reading is our own calculation, not data from the publisher. For the Executioner, the notes simply state "Increased Punishment Of The Damned width by 2 meters" — since the starting width isn't published anywhere, no percentage can be calculated. The French wordings come from the character pages, which name the killer "Le Bourreau – Pyramid Head" and his power Rites du jugement.

What Behaviour hasn't published — and why it matters

The game is fully localized in French, voice included: its Steam page lists “French” among the languages with full dubbing. The communication around this content, however, is not. Three checks made on Friday, September 11, 2026:

  • The 10.1.2 patch notes requested in French on the Steam feed return the English text, identically.
  • The last French news post published on the official site is dated July 30, 2026. Nothing since, and nothing on this iteration of the 2v8.
  • The news addresses expected for such a release — deadbydaylight.com/fr/nouvelles/2v8-alien-edition/ and deadbydaylight.com/fr/nouvelles/2v8-xenomorph-edition/ — return 404: these pages do not exist.

Hence our silence on the end date: previous iterations of the mode all had their dedicated news post on the site, this one does not. As long as Behaviour hasn't given a date, the only verifiable deadline is the one displayed in your client.

What to remember

On the killer side: stay above ground. Tunnels get you around, but it's outside of them that the Quadruped Mode's recharge gains its 25%, and exiting only gives 3 seconds of 5% Haste. A landed Tail Attack is worth 70 seconds of Mangled, and every turret that stops you is one less turret for the rest of the trial.

On the survivor side: the portable Flame Turret is no longer a lasting nuisance, it's ammunition. Grab it at the control stations, save it for a moment that counts, and place it where it protects an objective. And if the second killer is Ghost Face or the Executioner, remember that their powers came out stronger from the same patch.

Will you main the Xenomorph in 2v8, or attack it with the turret?

Frequently asked questions

Does the portable flamethrower turret regenerate after each use in 2v8?
No. A turret that ejects the Xenomorph from Quadruped Mode is automatically destroyed and disappears. Survivors can only use it once before having to find another.
Is it better to stay in tunnels or on the surface with the Xenomorph?
The surface is more efficient. Quadruped Mode recharges 25% faster when you're outside the underground network, and each exit grants 3 seconds of 5% haste. Tunnels are for traversal, not efficiency.
How long does Mangled last when hit by the tail attack?
70 seconds. That's a massive duration that hampers repair, healing, and pallet vaults — use it as soon as possible during a chase.
When does this Xenomorph 2v8 iteration end?
Behaviour has not published an end date. Check your game client for the displayed deadline, as the publisher has not issued an official French news update on the matter.

Key takeaways

  • The portable flamethrower turret is destroyed after ejecting the Xenomorph just once — it's ammunition to place strategically.
  • Quadruped Mode recharges 25% faster on the surface than in tunnels: staying out of the network increases your agility.
  • A tail attack that hits inflicts 70 seconds of Mangled, which heavily penalizes repair and generators.
  • No end date has been published in French, only a collection page with no dedicated news post.
