Corsair Cove Black Powder: how to make and use it

Black Powder is the lifeblood of Corsair Cove. Without it, your defenses stay silent against pirates, sea creatures, and everything lurking around your island. The problem is that the production chain requires several buildings linked together, and if you get the order or placement wrong, you'll waste a huge amount of time. Here's how to set up a proper supply chain, without any waste.

Step 1: secure a Guano spot

It all starts with Guano. This material can't be harvested just anywhere: you need a dedicated construction spot, and these locations are much rarer than wood, stone, or water spots. Think carefully before placing your Pirate Camps, because if you neglect access to Guano early on, your entire Black Powder chain will suffer for it later.

Step 2: build a Charcoal Burner

Once the Guano Harvester is up, head over to the Burner. This building is much more flexible in terms of placement, but the trick is to put it right next to the Guano Harvester to keep a short and fast supply line.

• Staff: 2 Fetchers + 2 Greenhands
• Upkeep: 2 Stews
• Required access: Stone and Hardwood (so proximity to a Lumberjack and a Quarry)

The Burner needs a constant flow of Stone and Hardwood to function. If your Lumberjack and your Quarry are too far away, production slows down and the entire downstream chain suffers.

Step 3: the Powder Mill, the heart of the chain

This is the building that turns Guano and Charcoal into actual Black Powder. Place it between the Guano Harvester and the Burner, or at the very least as close as possible to both. The goal: minimize the travel distance for materials.

A small detail that matters

Avoid ladders between your buildings. They slow down transport. Favor bridges and cliff paths to speed up the flow of resources between the Guano Harvester, the Burner, and the Mill.

You can also boost your output by unlocking the Powder Monkey skill. It directly increases the amount of Black Powder produced, so grab it as soon as possible.

An extra source: events

Island production isn't your only option. Certain outside events, like Smuggling Operations, can reward you with Black Powder. It's not guaranteed or regular, but it lets you build up a small safety stock for tough times.

Using Black Powder: Cannon Towers

Once your production is stable, most of your Black Powder will go into Cannon Towers. These are the large defense towers protecting your island's entry points, capable of firing mortars to sink enemy ships before they reach the shore.

The rule is the same as for the Burner: place your Cannon Towers as close as possible to the Mill. Their ammunition stock depends directly on a steady supply of Black Powder, so a short and efficient logistics route is what makes the difference between a tower firing continuously and a tower running dry at the worst possible moment.

Ideally, only build your Cannon Towers after stabilizing your Mill. Setting up defenses before securing production is a guaranteed way to end up with empty towers right when the pirates land.
