The MXGP franchise is the official video game series of the FIM Motocross World Championship, historically developed by Milestone (a Milan-based studio specializing in mechanical sports games) before the torch passed to Artefacts Studio for the latest episode. It should be clearly distinguished from MotoGP: where MotoGP covers road and asphalt circuit racing, MXGP focuses exclusively on the dirt, jumps and ruts of motocross and supercross.
The series truly kicks off in 2014 with MXGP: The Official Motocross Videogame, which lays the foundations of a simulation faithful to official FIM licenses. Episodes followed annually: MXGP2 (2016) introduces the track editor, MXGP3 (2017) marks the transition to Unreal Engine 4 with a notable graphical leap, while MXGP 2020 pushes terrain deformation further than its predecessors.
The franchise has established itself as the absolute reference for simulated motocross, without serious competition since the gradual abandonment of the MX vs. ATV series on the simulation segment. It systematically covers the MXGP and MX2 categories, with official riders and circuits from the current season.
With MXGP 26, the series enters a new era by adopting Unreal Engine 5 and betting on dynamic real-time terrain deformation - the most ambitious feature in its history.
