The Red Cathedral free for 12 days on Steam from August 25
In brief
The Red Cathedral: Digital Edition will be entirely free on Steam for 12 days, from August 25 to September 6, 2026. This is the ideal opportunity to try out this board game adaptation before its paid release this fall, without yet knowing what price Devir will set.
The Red Cathedral: Digital Edition will be free to play on Steam for 12 days, from Tuesday, August 25 to Sunday, September 6, 2026. Not a demo: the whole game, ahead of its paid release announced for “this fall” on PC and mobile.
Devir, developer and publisher of this adaptation of the board game by Shei S. Santos and Isra C., has not published the price of the final version. The Steam page reads “Coming soon”, with no price and no user reviews. Eight languages are supported, English and French among them. Multiplayer takes 1 to 4 players, in local play, in split screen or online, across platforms, and three AI levels allow solo play.
Our verdict
The question is not the price, it is the calendar. 12 days is more than enough to get through the tutorial and string together enough games to know whether the rondel suits you: two evenings and you will know. The window is aimed at anyone curious about the original board game, which has been singled out at the French board game awards, and at strategy players who want to judge before committing to an unknown price. Otherwise, let it pass: Devir has not said whether progress earned during this period will be kept in the paid version.
