In brief

Morefun Studios is launching a closed beta of Roco Kingdom on October 27 for PC and mobile. Heads up: this test will only be in English and Japanese, not French, despite what some have announced — the final version will have French subtitles, but not this one.

Morefun Studios, a Tencent subsidiary, has opened registrations for the first closed beta of Roco Kingdom. The studio calls it the Quack Test, it starts on Tuesday, October 27 at 02:00 UTC, i.e. 03:00 Paris time, and it will be playable on PC, Android and iOS.

What the French press missed

The announcement has been picked up in recent days as the game's arrival "in France". That's jumping the gun: the Steam page does state French subtitles for the final version, but Morefun makes it clear in black and white that the October test will only offer English and Japanese. No release date has been announced either.

The game

An open-world creature collector, openly built on Pokémon's framework: players take on the role of a Roco, a student at a magic academy, and tame the Jini of the continent of Carosia — more than four hundred species have been announced. On top of that there's online co-op exploration, turn-based player-versus-player battles, customizable housing, and progress shared between PC and mobile.

The franchise has existed in China since 2010 as a browser game. This is its first version designed for an international audience. All progress made during the test will be wiped when it closes, and in-app purchases will be disabled.
