The SpeedRunners franchise was born in 2013 with an independent party platformer developed by tinyBuild and DoubleDutch Games, quickly adopted by the Twitch scene for its simple yet formidable concept: 2D races where up to eight players face off on the same screen, using grappling hooks, dashes, and vicious traps to knock rivals off screen.
Driven by its chaotic gameplay and perfect readability for streaming, the first SpeedRunners became a cult classic of competitive multiplayer, alongside other party games that defined the era of video-game-as-spectacle on streaming platforms. Its retro-futuristic visual identity, its colorful characters, and its addictive game loop made it a reference in the competitive platformer genre, a niche that long remained underexploited compared to battle royales or fighting games.
After more than a decade of silence on the sequel front, the license returns with SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed, developed this time by Fair Play Labs under tinyBuild. This second installment retains the DNA of the original - frantic races, destructive powers, an ever-present grappling hook - while modernizing the graphics and netcode.
