Halloween
The Halloween saga was born in 1978 with John Carpenter's cult film, which introduced Michael Myers, a silent killer with a white mask who became an absolute icon of the slasher genre. The film established the codes of the genre: an isolated babysitter, an unstoppable killer, an oppressive nighttime atmosphere, and a minimalist soundtrack just as legendary as the film itself.
The film franchise then spans more than forty years, with sequels, reboots, and sometimes contradictory timelines. Among the notable milestones: Halloween II (1981), which directly continues the original story, the reboot directed by Rob Zombie in 2007, more graphic and focused on the killer's origins, then the trilogy relaunched by David Gordon Green between 2018 and 2022 (Halloween, Kills, Ends), which brings back Jamie Lee Curtis in the role of Laurie Strode for a final generational showdown.
In terms of impact, Michael Myers largely helped codify the slasher as a horror subgenre in its own right, influencing franchises such as Friday the 13th or Scream. On the video game side, the license has remained little exploited until now, with a few minor adaptations and a DLC in Dead by Daylight. The arrival of Halloween: The Game, developed by Illfonic for 2026, thus marks the first serious attempt to transpose the universe into a dedicated multiplayer game, relying on the asymmetrical hunt/survival experience already popularized by the online horror genre.
