Valheim Grappling Hook 1.0: how to unlock and craft it
The 1.0 update for Valheim introduced a wealth of new tools, weapons, and armor, and one of the most significant is the Grappling Hook. This item transforms the way you move around the map, especially over elevated terrain. Here's how to get your hands on its crafting recipe, then craft it with the right resources.
Unlocking the Grappling Hook recipe
To unlock the Grappling Hook recipe, you first need to find some Hooks. The easiest place to find them is in the dungeons of the Mistlands biome. There's no way to predict how long the search will take: you need one Hook to craft the Grappling Hook.

In short, Hooks are found in treasure chests and hidden locations, like other valuable resources. Their drop rate seems low - which is actually the only real obstacle in the process.
Crafting the Grappling Hook
To craft the Grappling Hook, head to the Black Forge with the following resources:
- 10 Yggdrasil Wood (harvested from trees in the Mistlands)
- 10 Refined Eitr (obtained from Soft Tissue at the Eitr Refinery)
- 4 Mandibles
- 1 Hook
Once you've gathered all these resources, you can finally craft the Grappling Hook.

Using the Grappling Hook properly
The tool is simple to use, but keep in mind the slight delay before it activates. The Grappling Hook is best used to latch onto a cliff or elevated terrain, before pulling yourself up to a stable spot where you can then let go.
