Terranigma

Terranigma is an action-RPG developed by Quintet and published by Enix on Super Famicom in 1995. You play as Ark, a boy from an underground village tasked with reviving a lifeless surface world: continents, fauna, flora, and then civilizations return as he progresses. Combat plays out in real time with a spear, using thrusts, jump attacks and charges, in a progression that alternates between dungeons and world reconstruction.

The game remained a special case: it never came out in North America, as Enix's subsidiary there had already closed by the time localization was finished, but it was published in Europe by Nintendo starting December 19, 1996, and in France in the summer of 1997 in a French version by Julien Bardakoff. Clear River Games and Square Enix are bringing it back into circulation in early 2027 on PC and consoles, with no graphical overhaul, featuring new illustrations by original character designer Kamui Fujiwara.
