World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft is Blizzard Entertainment's flagship MMORPG franchise, a direct extension of the Warcraft strategy game series (1994-2003). Since its launch on November 23, 2004, the game has become the world reference for fantasy MMOs, with more than 100 million accounts created over the years and a community still active in 2026.

The world of Azeroth is structured around a permanent conflict between two factions - the Alliance and the Horde - and offers all the major pillars of the MMO genre: progressive PvE (dungeons, raids, mythic+), PvP (arenas, battlegrounds, faction wars), professions and economy, transmog, narrative questing and seasonal raids. The franchise has lived at two speeds since 2019 with the modern Retail version (Midnight expansion since March 2026) and the progressive Classic version that replays the game's history since Vanilla (currently in Mists of Pandaria Classic).

Blizzard also extends the franchise in other forms: the card game Hearthstone, the mobile game Warcraft Rumble, as well as the re-releases Warcraft III: Reforged and Warcraft: Remastered.
