Firaxis Games is an American video game development studio founded in 1996 by Sid Meier and Jeff Briggs, after they left Microprose. Located in Sparks, Maryland, the studio specializes in the strategy game genre and is now part of Take-Two Interactive. Firaxis is best known for its famous "Civilization" series (from III up to VII, released in 2025), the tactical reboot "XCOM: Enemy Unknown" and its sequels, as well as "Sid Meier's Pirates". Sid Meier's name is used as a prefix in several titles, reflecting his very high renown in the world of video games.
