Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Released in 2003, The Sands of Time redefined three-dimensional action-adventure: an acrobatic prince who runs along walls, a palace that reads like a sequence of movement puzzles, and above all the Dagger of Time, capable of rewinding the last few seconds that just killed you. The mechanic set a precedent well beyond the series itself.

Ubisoft Montréal grafted onto it a first-person narration, with the prince recounting after the fact what the player has just experienced — a device that allows for corrections when you fail. GOG brought the PC version into its Preservation Program in August 2026, with native support for 16:9 and ultra-wide. The remake announced in 2020 was, meanwhile, cancelled in January 2026.
