Final Fantasy XI Online development progress
Final Fantasy XI's time-unlimited free trial is targeting September
About Final Fantasy XI Online
Final Fantasy XI Online is the series' first MMORPG, launched in Japan in 2002 on PlayStation 2 and PC, then in Europe on September 17, 2004 on PC only. The world of Vana'diel rests on principles the genre has since largely abandoned: slow progression, mandatory groups for most content, an interchangeable job system on a single character, and a secondary support job.
Square Enix has maintained the game for over twenty years. The PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 versions closed in early 2016; the PC version, however, still receives monthly updates and a monthly subscription is still required. Note for the French-speaking audience: the French and German language options were removed after the July 2014 update, a decision announced on April 30, 2014. The game can now only be played in English or Japanese.
