Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams

Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams marks a decisive turning point for Square Enix's series, two years after the total reboot of the project initially known as The Flames of Fate. This adventure is centered on a young boy haunted by unsettling nocturnal dreams, between a waking universe he seems to know and a dream universe where a threat lurks. We find again Akira Toriyama's character design, the traditional JRPG atmosphere with free exploration, modernized turn-based combat, and a strongly emphasized narrative dimension. Dreams thus become a true experimentation ground: certain quests, skills and alterations of the world rely on this back and forth between reality and imagination, with a darker and more mature backbone than ever, yet still in tune with the sense of wonder tied to Dragon Quest...
